FS5 or FS7

Actually I'm surprised these two cameras don't have their own forum on this website. We are shooting a feature to be shown in a movie theater. The budget is tight and I have to film this in Africa. I tested both the FS5 and the FS7. Obviously the FS7 has Cinema 4K in 4:2:2 whereas the FS5 is HDV 4K in 4:2:0. This said, at twice the price, is the FS7 worth it when you have a tight budget? Thank you for your opinions.

As an owner of both cameras, I would highly recommend getting the FS7 over the FS5. Yes it costs 50% more (not twice the price, as you have stated), but the differences in features and performance between the cameras are much greater than you'd expect by the difference in price. Get the FS7 and you will never regret it. Also, think about long-term value. Assuming they are in equal condition, a used FS7 will always sell for more money than a similar FS5, so you'll eventually get a lot of the initial difference in price back when you sell it someday. I discuss some of the difference in the first 5 minutes of this video: https://vimeo.com/153611461

Doug in your video you say that in most shooting situations there is virtually no iumage quality difference between the FS5 and the FS7. Isn't that a key reason to go for the FS5?

If image quality is all the matters to you, and you won't be doing any grading in 4K, then you could probably save a few bucks and get an FS5. Your viewers would probably not know the difference. But in my opinion, all the other advantages of the FS7 make it well worth the extra cost. Do not make the mistake of thinking the FS5 is just a smaller version of the FS7. They are totally different cameras that were designed and built by two totally different divisions of Sony and they have practically nothing in common with each other.

"cinematographic"

lol

Its actually a word but never heard it used like that before

Definition: "connected with the art or process of making films/movies" From the Oxford Dictionary. Also, "of or pertaining to cinematography"
