FS5 rec 709. Is this IR pollution? Shot in direct sunlight about 9.30 am. Used the default exterior white balance in the camera although I have subsequently white balanced using the colour picker in FCPX but even before that it was showing the same characteristics. The guys are wearing black clothes but appear very magenta. Their shoes are black and appear black so what is happening to their clothes? I know some "black" dies react very differently to light but is there anything I can do about this either in post or with filters during capture?

Many thanks. Patrick.

Indeed it is...and sometimes not all blacks are affected the same way.

The best you can do now is color correction.

In production, you want to use IR cut filters.

Maybe it is my screen...maybe I am not good at seeing color discrepancies...but I don't see any magenta in the black. Are you all talking about the edge effect similar to Chromatic aberration? The CA effect on the white stripe of the shorts and on the edges of the black slacks? Or, the actual black of the shorts, pants, and shirt? To my eye the black of the pants is just as black as the shoes and just as black as the shadow of the person.

I think it is just me. Half the time I watch the lens comparisons I barely see any distinguishable difference where others see huge differences. Which is great for me because it saves me a lot of money in lenses. :Drogar-Happy(DBG):

Magenta wasn't the right word...it's more of a brown color. Or if it is magenta then consider it very dark.

There's definitely a big difference between the clothes and the shoes...it's probably your monitor as mentioned.

Yes, my bad. It is a red/brown colour. If you compare the shoes with the clothes of either man there is a difference. The jpeg frame grab is crushed down here compared to the video so it's a little harder to see. It's night and day on my monitor.
Any recommendations for a good IR cut filter would be gratefully received.
Many thanks. Patrick.

My EX3 had it real bad. Mostly happen with man made fabrics. Shot a guy with a black polar fleece vest once and it showed up reddish brown. Usually happened under tungsten lighting. I used the Tiffen T1 filter on my lens to fix the issue. The only problem was you could not use preset white balances with the filter on.
