Hello,

I'm recently use Sony FS5 for shooting commercial, i had a problem viewing image through HDMI output to external monitor at 24 fps, but it worked at 60 fps , I've checked HDMI option in the menu, everything was on, is anybody had the same problem? thank you in advance for any help

Jaya

Was it set to 4k recording at 24p? When recording 4k, you have to choose if your output is going to the LCD monitor or to external output. It can't do both. If it was set to LCD, the output to external monitor will disappear once you hit record.

Yes this is because every Sony camera after the Sony F3 implemented 24p output over HDMI as 24PsF (progressive segment frame) so the older HDMI monitors and devices do not support it. Clever camera's like Canon 7D, or even the Sony F3 have 2-3 pulldown built-in so that while the camera was set to 24p it is actually outputting 60i.

The pulldown is gone on the FS7/F5/F55/FS5.

The only option is to use a convertor box like a decimator or BMD mini converter, or get a different monitor than the one you are using. This is ONLY an issue for 24p. Your monitor will work the the camera is set to 25p, 50i, 60i, 30p.

thank you for all replay

yes i did shoot in 4K 24p, but when i change it to 60p i'm still able to use both output.
but thanks to starcentral explanation about PSF, i did some research about it and i found it strange why sony make it deference pull down at 24p (BTW it doesn't work at 25p as well)

do you think it will work with Atomos monitor without decimator?

thank you

With the Atomos, or any other modern equipment, I would avoid any "prehistoric" settings like PsF and pulldown and use straight 24p (but if I am not mistaken the Atomos devices also support PsF).
