FS5: FS5 firmware version 1.1 available for download

The update went very smoothly. About 4 minutes on a MBP.

Just follow directions precisely.

Use AC power, I used AC on UPS just in case of power outage, we are having a storm here. I also removed the battery.

Remove your SD cards, this is in the instructions.

Also if you did any customization, make sure you save the profile to an SD card before updating as everything is reset including time/date. I had a bunch of PPs I was playing with, and they restored fine from the SD card, I only reset my region and time after the update. The cam profile even saves your custom button assignments/iso settings etc, and that worked fine as well after restoring.

Merry Xmas everyone.

I guess its true the FS5 will never record 4K Internally.... use the screen on the camera... and output to a monitor for other to see. Ridiculous considering the price of the camera.

Ditto on everything Olof said. Good summary.
But instead of a UPS I have a fully charged battery onboard the camera as backup. And my MBP will switch to battery as well if power is lost. I wonder would happen if a desktop computer lost power in the middle of an update? The instructions don't mention that possibility. If I had a choice I'd rather do updates from a memory card.

I'm still confused what this firmware update allows the FS5 to do.

So while recording 4K internally, this new firmware will allow the FS5 to simultaneously do.... what?

You can now record 4K internally and use an external monitor/recorder at the same time (which you could not do before). The drawback is, if you choose to use a monitor/recorder while recording 4K internally, the screen on the camera will not work at the same time (so as an operator, you have to be looking at the external monitor you chose to use to see anything).

So if you'd like 4K internal, AND to use an external recorder (so you have two recordings in different formats), you can. But you cannot view whats being recorded on the camera's screen while doing it.

That is a bit crazy, don't you think? Some engineer was asleep during the camera design. I almost always run with an external monitor. That decision will cost Sony a lot of sales with this camera, I would think. They should stop their manufacturing run and fix it.
