My FS5 does not detect AC adapter preventing me from firmware update
For some reason my FS5 doesn't detect or charge from the ac adapter port. I've tried several ac adapters... I normally don't care because I'm running off battery 99.9% of the time. But the fact that it's not detecting the AC plus is preventing me from having the ability to upgrade to firmware 4.0... Are you all having any problems similar? And is there a way to get around the Need of the AC needed for the update?

With the Fs7 a software update is possible without the camera being on ac power. Sony recommends that the camera be on a/c power, but it isn't mandatory. Nothing in the camera software prevents updating software while running off battery. I see where the Sony site instructions for fs5 software update procedure reads: "Note: The update can be performed only when using AC adaptor. Battery cannot use for this update." Whereas for the fs7 software update procedure the Sony site only says "Please use the AC Adaptor during the update." So it appears that Sony made it so that a/c power is required for fs5 updating, possibly as a result of fs7 users having issues as a result of the update not completing due to battery power running out?

But back to your issue- the only thing I can suggest is to try a full camera reset and see if the camera then recognizes an a/c adaptor. I assume you are removing the battery when plugging in the a/c adaptor. Not that it should matter because the camera is supposed to make a working a/c adaptor the priority. That is, even with a battery on the camera the camera will divert to a connected a/c adaptor, as has always been the case with Sony broadcast cameras.

Yeah, the power adapter connected to the camera is mandatory. I can not proceed with the update with out it. I've tried a reset via the initialize portion of the menu. Is there a way to do a hard reset like a phone?

I'll have to be aware of this. Ordering my Fs5 tomorrow or before the Monday deadline. Just waiting for the credit card payment to go through on my payment. On another big ticket item. I like using the card because I'll get a 100 bucks back. Which I throw towards a Shogun.

But let us know if you have issue with the 4.0 update. Some are saying that sony pulled it and some have guessed its because of the HDR with Premiere. That Sony is re-releasing it Aug 2nd... the place where I'm buying it from was just going to do the update before they sent it to me.

Possibly there is indeed a means of performing a hard-reset on the fs5. Going by the linked conversation, it is possible to hard-reset the F5 and F55:

Does this solved issue help you at all?-

Is the camera not recognizing the a/c adaptor at all, under any circumstance? Or only when the camera is connected to a computer via usb cable?

You have tried every order of connecting the camera to the a/c adaptor? Power camera via battery, connect a/c adaptor, remove battery. Connect unpowered a/c adapter to camera, turn camera power on, then connect unpowered a/c adaptor to wall outlet. etc.

I can only imagine how maddening this must be for you. I have owned my fs7 for near 3 years now and, knock on wood, never had any problems with it. Try posting on the Sony Community forum linked above. There are many users of that forum who do not follow this forum. Maybe someone over there will see your post and provide a solution. Keep us updated.
