FS7: FS5 /7 video

Hi all,

I shoot broadcast, EPK and corporate.

FS5 looks video. (i couldn't give a f**k) re: people saying otherwise.

Sony need to get their colour science right or all you fools are playing long ball in post.

Not sure what the point you're trying to make, are you hungover?

Who are you calling a fool?

I know this thread has the makings of a 'Sony Look' thread but if you can't get you footage looking how you want it from SGamut3.cine and SLog3 then I think the problem is with the user and not Sony.

Long ball in post? Not sure what that means but I've crafted my own LUTs and corrections that I've stored as presets and it's a simple case of drag and drop and I get the 'look' I want from all my footage it couldn't be easier or quicker.

Your next camera should be an Arri.

I've only ever shot Cine EI/S Log on the FS7, so I think of it as a film camera - yes, you might get certain colour bias, depending on whether it's golden Kodachrome, green Fuji, or brown Agfa. In my experience, the FS7 has a slight red bias in skin tones, that easily pulls out with a tweak on the red channel curve.

That's the joy (and pain) of a 10 bit camera with decent dynamic range - a bit more post production, but so much flexibility and it'll get you out of jail for free.

As for custom (baked-in) profiles - I've never tried them and would only delve in there if I was doing a job that needed on-the-day rapid turnaround, with no time to grade etc.

From similar people FS7 got a bad rep at the beginning. They're rented it for a day, didn't know what they're doing, set to the worst possible profile - then complain how bad camera is. If you can't get a good imagery out of it is either fault of what your settings were or what you've put in front of a mount.

All i can say is NEVER make a post whilst you have been to a party and had several beers. I read my post in the morning and laughed at my silliness.

Sorry guys

Alcohol is the original truth serum.

Beehop you obviously harbour these thoughts about the FS5 and are able to suppress them under normal circumstances, that is, until you find yourself inebriated in front of a keyboard and the pent up frustration is spaffed into cyberspace.
