FS100 Output PAL HDMI and Blackmagic Comparison?

Hi guys,

Firstly, I'm from the UK and am looking to buy an NTSC FS100U from America and then update the firmware so I can have my pal output settings. For anyone with the update, does this allow it to output PAL over HDMI? Probably a stupid question but I'm asking it anyway.

Secondly, I am being a little bit tempted by the Blackmagic Cinema, but I do really love the look of the Super35 mm sensor, I know its really not a deal breaker but what would you guys say to tempt me to the FS100?

Cheers!

Where in the US were you hoping to buy it from?
B&H do not ship the FS100 to the UK, if they did, import VAT and duty add up to over £1300. That would make the camera £4800

And you'll have no warranty.

Why do you want to import? It's not cheaper... you can't avoid customs, tax and delivery.

If you own a company and therefore have a VAT number, do the smart thing, and buy it within the EU, from fx. Germany (I bet Postmaster knows a shop), then you order from there, use your VAT number, and avoid paying the tax.
After the firmware update, your EU FS100 will be EXACTLY like the US version...
Buying from the states were fun a year ago when the dollar was cheap.

There is an online shop called slrhut who sell them at a cheaper price as they are imported and are NTSC versions. Regardless of this, what would you recommend about the FS100 over the features and speculation of the BM Cinema?

A quick Google search on SLRHut reveals some pretty bad reviews.
They are not an importer, goods are sent from the US and you'd be liable to a large tax bill.

I'm paying for my FS100 on Monday, for £5k I'm getting the EK model delivered plus two Sony 970 batts, the good Sony dual charger, MTF Nikon adaptor as well as Sony Silver Service.
I hope that's a good deal, I'd like the FS700, but as this price I can perhaps afford to keep my EX1.

Get it from a German dealer - within the European Union you have no tax and VAT problems.
There are a lot of nice deals in the moment.

Getting up at 4am to feed a teething baby almost ruined my day, until I read this!
Frank... thankyou, you just made my day!

Funny, because I've been buying PA, cable and connectors and lighting from Thomann.de for years but never thought to by video kit from Germany too.
Can you recommend a good seller?

Rebelfilm, have you got any more details you can share?, are you in the UK?

Duncan.

I havent found a german shop yet that have the fs100.... But check out mbf.de. They have some nice things and sell without vat.

In the end after chasing round sellers in Germany and the Netherlands I decided to go with my original UK quote.
The difference wasn't all that great, and I know that Silver Service will be OK etc etc.

There's an offer on at the moment for an FS100 with a NX5 and 18-55. But note, it's the old NX5 not the NX5n, and not an NEX5 either!!

I got £340 worth of accessories with my FS100EK so I choose Sony 970s and the best Sony dual charger.
I also ordered a MFT - Nikon adaptor and got the whole lot delivered for £5k and change from an official dealer.

Duncan.
