Fs100 "Magic Lantern"

I just want to throw this out there. With all the buzz about Fs700 coming out and the Fs100 firmware bogus, what are the chances of a computing wizard in our midst (yes i'm talking to you genius!) create a firmware hack, or find a way to make something in the like of Magic Lantern did for the 5dmk2? Any ideas?

It is my understanding that a downloadable firmware has to be released by the manufacturer first, so that the genius can hack that file. I certainly would be interested in checking it out myself as well.

What can you possible want with hacked firmware? Magic Lantern was created to give video features to a stills camera. The FS100/700 already has those features, including those we can't get with a firmware hack (proper output, headphone jack, XLR inputs, etc). Want to avoid the AVCHD codec or bump up the bitrate? Use a Ninja or Ki Pro mini. Need a flat picture profile? G-LOG is pretty close to the F3's S-LOG.

I would offer a dissenting opnion on that one, i've been up close and personal with both.

To me it seems to be apples and, well, maybe, tiny little sour crab apples...

I know that the Glog/Blog etc profiles are filling a role, but they are not anywhere near the range of Slog/444/dpx from either the F3 or the F35 in my experience

I would love to have a waveform alas the AF100 does. Maybe a avc intra 100mbit and 422 in camera? Two levels of zebra like sony own Ex3 and Ex1. Output "real" progressive out of hdmi. -3 gain, sync modes to shoot tv and not mess with our beloved "cinematic" shutter speed to name a few. This is all speculation but one can only dream if corporate decision limits our nice little camera functions, good example is the GH2 hack.

The FS100 got a histogram, the FS700 should have that too and that works for me. Yes, I prefer waveform over histogram any day, but I can do without if there's a histogram. Otherwise there are monitors with built-in waveforms.

In camera, no. The GH2 got the high bitrates with the hack, but it's still only 4:2:0. Higher bitrates I get with the Ki Pro, and in Prores. Still 8-bit but proper 4:2:2.

I use the EX3 all the time, but I only got one zebra turned on, I then combine that with the histogram.

Output "real" progressive out of hdmi.

Even the EX3 doesn't output progressive. The Ki pro handles that with psf.

-3 gain, sync modes to shoot tv

I never use -3db. It decreases the DR a bit. And I would never use a large sensor camera for live TV. For pre-taped stuff, yes, but never live. Too shallow DoF and no proper TV lens.

Awesome! You got it figured out! Like I said, this is very subjective. Some would like extra features, others are content with what the manufacturer gives. I personally would love to have my camera bring me coffee every morning as I wanna know the possibility of a hack for the camera but oh well.

Those are problems that we all run quickly when we start using FS-100 in pro environement
so you to all of what chistiansoares has said
and i woud pad for this firmware if it hapen

Maybe that is why they delayed the release. They are working to make the firmware update "unhackable" .
