FS100 freezes up in S&Q mode

As of today my FS100 freezes up in S&Q mode! :( The camera triggers the mode but then the picture freezes. The frozen picture will stay on the screen, even if I turn the camera off. I have to eject the battery to get it running again. I'm using a 32GB Transcend Class 10 SD card, have shot multiple S&Q on it last week without a problem. Tried different frame rates, but it freezes with everyone. I'm on v2, but have been since I got the FS100 last week. Several media formats in camera, haven't solved it. Anyone has an idea what's up and how it fix it?

try another card and see if the issue persist

Thats the problem, the FS100 won't see my other 32gb class 6 card. Works fine in my 550d. Will try a 16gb uhs-i asap! Strange it work fine last week with S&Q though :(

There is a ton of fraud cards around with spooky, erratic behavior.
Class 6 is a bit on the slow end, by the way.

Also, SDHC cards have a finite 'half life' and slow down over the years - I've noticed the first few cards I got for my original EX1 are 'slowing down' and there's a couple I've just thrown away as they didn't pass the '10 second' test (hit record on the EX1, hit it again, and time how long the card indicator takes to go from Red to Green - SxS cards do it in 5 secs, unreliable cards do it in 11 secs or more). Cheaper ones seem to slow down faster, but still worth doing a 'fill card' test with SDHC cards once or twice a year (and when you first buy them) - film a TV screen for the entire capacity of the card, ensure there's no hiccups or bad sectors lurking in there.

It was definitely not a card issue! It froze even with no SD card in at all. Did a hard factory reset, everything is peachy now again, can record S&Q on the Class10 card with out a problem. Still a bit weird though, couldn't find anything about this freeze on Google.

I tried the new little Sigma 30 mm f2.8 EX DN Emount lens ($199) on my FS100 a few days ago (Lensrentals – “the best of all available E-mount lenses”) and got a freeze during use – black screen and frozen menus/icons.

Power off/on no change, battery out/in fixed it.

N.B. Can’t recommend the Sigma for the FS100 – in addition to this freezing, auto focus is 'noisy' and the 1 inch lens looks ridiculous on the front of the FS !

My first gig with the FS100 today, after days of messing with it and testing etc. It has the latest firmware on it.

I was shooting 1fps undercrank at 1080/25p on a fairly new Transcend Class 10 16GB SDHC.
While recording for a few minutes, I pressed record again to stop and the screen image froze.

I quickly messed with a few buttons, before deciding to switch it off.
It came straight back on, it was in normal mode so I carried on filming.
I've ended up with a useable timelapse on the card, followed by a very short timelapse clip.

The fact that I was on a mountain up to my ankles in mud and rain, surrounded by shXt and a client peering at the screen with me, meant I couldn't investigate the problem further...

Duncan.

I've had the same thing with exactly those settings, but I think it's just the camera writing the file when you press stop that causes the screen to freeze and recording again becomes unavailable for a bit until the camera's finished with the file, if you leave it for long enough the screen goes back to normal.

has anyone had this "freeze" situation occur when writing to the fmu rather than an sd card?

i ask wondering if the fmu buffers quicker than an sd card.

be well

Hi, i'am having the same problem as yours, did you reset the camera yourself or you had to take it to Sony service?!
If you did yourself do you mind telling me how you did it!? i can't find anything in the menu and manual...
thanks

problem solved, just found the RESET option!!!.... was that easy..i hope that i will not be forced to use it too often, it erases all your preferences with cam together with picture profile.:dankk2: anyway

This problem occurs when one tries to set the S&Q function by using the menu button on the top of the cam. Follow the manual closely, it says one needs to use the menu button at the left side of the camera body. Doing so doesn't cause that freeze.
