FS100 Brand New vs Second Hand

Hi, I will be buying a fs100 shortly, seconds hand prices are around $3850 for the body, a brand new Celebration Package is $5,429.00 with vegas ($350 Real Value) 32GB Memory ($50 Real Value) and the 18-200mm Lens ($700 real Value) leaving a brand new body for around $4329 (around 10% more expensive than a new one) I had seen some people having issues with dead pixels and other few problems. to my eyes buying a New one is a no brainer, What you guys think?

Probably second hand value will go even lower, I think some peoples start selling the FS100 to Buy a D800, 5D MKIII, C300 or an Scarlet

Buying a used FS is no different than buying any other used gear. Buy from a seller you have confidence in, and it's well worth it. Conversely, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. I bought a used FS package and found a great deal. I've also been a seller, and have always treated buyers the way I'd like to be treated. I don't think the FS has any unique issues that would preclude buying used. Nice thing about this site is that it's a community, keep your eye out for a seller you can vet through their history here and get the most bang for your buck.

I think it is because a lot of people might not be able to afford/front for a $6575 MSRP package (that they then have to wait to resell components of, and send off for mail in rebates for etc) in order to achieve a $4330 ending price. I think a ~$4000 is more reasonable for most people, and if the condition is good - why not?

I will add though, every one I've seen on here over the past 3 months used was $4k or up. Most on Ebay completed listings (excluding the ones the ones that were ended early and 'marked as sold' creating falsely low appearing prices that had frozen at the early auction end time) were $4000+ - so I think your average used price of $3850s is low.

PS - I just purchased a used (3 times) FS100 for around $4k, and am happy with my decision since I:
- do not need vegas or the card or the lens (want to use FD lenses)
- cannot afford to spend $6575+ upfront and get refunded money later to achieve a better overall deal
- am pretty well covered by buyer protection in the event that the camera has issues that were not disclosed in the listing

I have been checking a FS100 for few weeks and most auctions end at that:
320851648064 $3,250.00 (this price was joke but was sold at that price)
120866328582 END $4,775.00 I bid on that pretty sure would end for less (Kit Lens, 3 Batteries, and a bunch of Extra Accessories)
320852917888 END $4,551 (I also bid on that one, Kit lens, Two Batteries)
140703060764 $4,359.00 (Kit lens , Bag and extra Battery)

Plus on top of that the poor seller had to pay ebay and paypal fees over 10%

I don'y know I think $3800 is reasonable but is not a bargain sony warranty is not transferable and in 2 month down the road you can end with a very expensive paper weight ;)

This. I am constantly amazed at what people will pay for secondhand gear. No warranty? No recourse? That's a lot of money to risk.

I buy and sell online a lot and have had no problems. I'm always irritated that potential buyers wanting to fix a private deal simply assume that the commission that ebay would earn actually entirely belongs to them. It might sound silly, but there's no real reason why anyone should want you rather than ebay to make those $200 bucks. There's only incentive to lower the price in a private deal if both parties save money.

ok .Is there any options to check fs100 before I buy it ? I mean how can I check sensor -free from dead pixels ,hot pixels .

How do you search for ended listings?

I've had a lot of luck with used gear like fresnels, cases. I have also bought used lenses because the savings were great and the sellers, pros. These are all pretty easy to inspect. I think if you know the user or trust the community to which they belong, that's a good thing.

I am in the market for an Audix SCX1/HC microphone. There's a used one on Craigslist for $435. It sells new for $499! I made a reasonable offer and got turned down. It's just not worth forfeiting the manufacturer's warranty for such a small savings. If it's used, it's used. I think often people unrealistically assess the value of their used gear and underestimate the risk a buyer takes, spending big dough on electronics without any recourse.

On the left column (when looking at search results) you check the 'completed listings' checkbox. It then requests you to login - but you'll see completed listings matching the search criteria you used (green being sold, red being unsold)....

however you should note (as mentioned by me in the thread & disregarded) - I'm almost positive someone can sell an item off ebay, end the auction prematurely and mark the item as sold without updating the final sale price (even if there were bids on it)... making the final price incorrect.

example: i have an item up on ebay. three bidders have drove the price up to 10 dollars. the item usually sells for 20. someone contacts me (craigslist, email, from a forum, ebay member whatever) that they want it for 16 right now. i cancel the auction and state 'the item has been sold' as the reasoning (this is an option). the price on ebay is archived as 'being sold' and the final price being 10 BUT that is not what the item NECESSARILY really sold for. you can open up the item page (for example http://www.ebay.com/itm/320851648064 as I mentioned before) and it will say "This listing was ended by the seller because the item was sold" at the top. I would not trust the final sales prices of items like this - so you gotta check.

Along the left side of the page, look for a checkbox that says "Completed Listings" and click that.
