FS: Steadicam Flyer - New lower price

Jeff Anderson

Custom Title!
RELIST - LOWER PRICE! was $5200 now $4500

Up for sale is my Steadicam Flyer - note that this is not the LE model but the second version of the original Flyer (black arm). Its rated to fly 15 lbs and does it wonderfully. Well suited to a bare HVX or one with a 35mm adapter. Have also had lots of success flying my d90 with a weight plate. Asking 4500 plus shipping. Note that due to the weight and size of the entire system this could easily cost $100 if not more to ship.

Condition is fantastic - has some cosmetic scratches that affect the performance in no way whatsoever. A fantastic tool to shoot all day long with and really up your production value.

Includes everything seen and described in the photos below.

Jeff,

Any batteries with the package? Do you know how many revisions they've had of the flyer? or the major difference's between them? (I suppose I could do my own research...) How much use has it seen, and are there ANY issue's whatsoever besides the cosmetic you've mentioned? Condition of the vest?

Have you ever, or do you think it could handle flying a RED one comfortably? I've heard of people flying a RED on the flyer, but I don't have any real world experience with it, and I'm a little worried the RED will push it to, or past, its limits.

-Ryan

also, where in OK are you? I'm in Dallas...

Batteries - already been sold. Recommend globalmediapro if you are looking for some inexpensive generic ab's or v mounts.

Revisions - the Flyer LE is the current version - this came directly before that. The LE has an arm that supports more weight (19lbs?) and has a telescoping post on the sled allowing a nice short sled or a big long one. A nice feature, but it didnt really hinder me to not have. The stand included is also a collapsing c-stand instead of a light stand style one. Light stand style has been plenty stable for me. That's the changes that I'm aware of - Tiffen (owners of steadicam) could definitely shed some more light on that though - have always gotten some great support for all my questions to them.

Vest condition is great - has some dog hair on it :) No visible wear, velco in good condition.

RED - its been done :) Not by me. Never had the opportunity, but from my guesses you'd have to really trim the weight down - few if any accessories, lightweight lens (nikon?). You'd also have to adapt the video output to the steadicam monitor - if I remember right the RED only outputs HD-SDI - small converters are out there, but arent cheap. Powering the RED directly from the sled also takes a special cable I think. You'll probably also want a wireless follow focus assuming you are having a somewhat shallow depth of field. I would talk to Tiffen regarding what would be needed to fly the RED. It definitely can be made to work, but one of the larger (and much more expensive) steadicam's would make your life much easier. Really depends on how often you want to be flying the red and what accessories if any the shoot requires.

Location is Owasso OK, just a few miles north of Tulsa.

Thanks Jeff,

I'm doing some research now. Honestly, I may end up going with a higher-end steadicam, or at least the LE version of the flyer, but that's not to say I'm totally out of this sale. Give me a couple days to research and I'll let you know either way.

Also, do you know of a good steadicam forum? I've got a lot of specific questions that I think could best be answered on a dedicated forum. This investment is a LOT of money to me, and I want to be sure I make the right decisions of the bat.

No problem Ryan - definitely a purchase worth doing some major research on. Have used a couple of offbrand cheaper systems and the money makes the difference. I imagine the archers and beyond just continue the trend.

Dedicated forum - www.steadicamforum.com Tread lightly, some extremely knowedgeable working pros there, but they arent so hot on answering questions already asked - makes sense of course, I've just seen a few rants on occasion.

Pete Hoarpe here (and at the steadicamforums) has alot of flyer experience and with the RED and HPX500 so he might be someone to be talking to.

Just received my Steadicam Flyer! Jeff shipped this out to me the morning after I paid, he packed it with great care, and everything is just as described! Awesome! Thanks!
