HVX200 For Sale. The tape deck has NEVER been used. Hours of total operation are guaranteed to be under 50 hours. (Probably a lot less, but I have not upgraded the firmware so there is no hard number. My guess is that it is between 16 and 22 hours.)
Mint condition. Selling camera body with basic accessories. (Everything that came in the box with the camera, which was purchased from B&H.) PLUS, P2 media*, AND Barry Green's HVX BOOK (with CD).
*I AM NOW INCLUDING P2 MEDIA IN THIS PACKAGE - See next post for details
Asking for $3700USD. Price is negotiable within reason. Looking for a fair price for both of us. Everyone’s circumstances are different, so I’m happy to talk about that. Buyer pays shipping. (No worries, you only pay what I pay to send it to you. I don’t “round up.”) Last time, when I sold my DVX, it cost under 50$, just to give you an idea. I’ve sold gear here before. I hate getting screwed on shipping when I buy something, so I’ll be damned if I do the same to someone else.
Here are pics of the camera:
In case you’re interested, the following is kind of a “life story” of the camera… If you’re interested, it’s here, if not, all cool:
I was making a documentary on stem cell research (I have a heart condition, so it’s a subject of importance to me) with a DVX100. When the HVX200 came out, I immediately bought it to do some re-shoots for the film, and to do some short films I was writing during the downtime of the SC film. This was around January 2007.
Unfortunately at that same time I fell very ill. I had to be shocked twice (the paddles from TV where they shock you back to a normal rhythm). I was bed ridden for months at a time, and this lasted about 16 months. I was told later that it got bad enough that my doctors began to consider a heart/lung transplant. I didn’t have any energy to do any of my film projects, and the medication gave me headaches so I couldn’t edit either.
The whole time, the HVX200 just sat on the shelf. It has not been used for anything except for some test shoots when I felt well enough to get out of bed, and a few shots for the stem cell film. I didn’t even take it out of the box until two months after I bought it.
I’m not trying to make this a sob story. Many people go through much worse than I did. Knock on wood, I’m fine now; and have my own organs. The only reason I’m posting this information is because I am always weary of buying used equipment. I like to know what the equipment has been through, why it is being sold, and its history. You know? I figure if that’s what I demand when I buy something, I should practice what I preach.
I’m very anal about keeping my electronics clean and germ free. I have to keep things clean because of my condition. Getting sick (viral or otherwise) is something I avoid at all costs. I don’t let other people touch my equipment unless they sanitize AND wash their hands. I don’t drop things. In fact the only other hands that have touched the camera are were my best friend’s when he was filming a scene for the stem cell film.
I always shot in 1080p, so it’s about a gig a minute on the cards. I’ve only recorded about 150GBs of material MAXIMUM. So that plus the time to setup the camera, I figure it cannot have been on for more than 22 hours, and likely much less, but I’m saying 50 max just so there is no chance I am giving a figure that misrepresents how much the camera was used.
The lens has been kept clean, with compressed air only. There is no adhesive or anything else on the camera. NO cosmetic damage. It is all but brand new. And it was stored in a padded case when not in use.
I really love this camera, and would love to give it a good home. I’m selling it to buy a camera with better low light performance. I shoot ALOT in low light situations. That plus I’d like a camera that doesn’t carry memories of such a bad time.
I apologize to spill my guts out like this, but as I said earlier, it’s optional reading. So… Lastly, buying a camera is a lot of money for indies like us. I’d like to cater, as much as I can, to the comfort level of the buyer. I’ve found this community to be a wonderful group of honest hardworking filmmakers, so I hope we can find a fair deal, and both end up happy.
