I've got an Edirol UA-5 preamp. It has been modified to be able to be used without a USB hook-up and has had internal electronics upgraded to offer vastly superior performance compared to the stock unit. These are no longer available from Edirol. These particular units besides having XLR inputs with phantom power also have the ability to have both XLR input AND RCA/1/4" line level inputs at the same time both input level independently controlled. The modification was done by Busman Audio who is one of the leading aftermarket copanies that specializes in these types of audio recording work. The modified unit is known as a BM2p+. Besides the unit it self I have the original box, manual, install CD AND will trow in a DVD style battery and charger which allows on location portable use. The modded pre-amp has sound quality which rivals pre amps such as Grace Design V3, Sound Devices Mix Pre. It also has analog outputs or digital outputs in the form of optical and coax. It is capable of 24 bit 96Hz Analog to Digital conversions. These units are very popular in audio circles and besides the ability to use it in the field it an also be used as an interface to your computer via USB.
