Hi,
I have an Apple Xserve RAID for sale. This is an older model than the one currently shipping from the Apple Store (purchased July 2004). It has 14 drive bays, and I have 7 filled right now with 250GB drives. That gives you 1.75TB of space, but in the current array I have only 1.4TB available. That way, if one drive fails, you can replace it without losing any data. For more info on the Xserve RAID, click here. The major difference in the new version is that it allows for 750 GB drives. In the interest of full disclosure, you CANNOT use drives bigger than 250 GB with this unit, but you can add up to 7 more 250 GB drives, giving you a total of 3.5 TB. Rack mounting hardware is included (never used).
We paid around $9k for this a few years ago - it has been very well cared for and used rather lightly. We purchased it to edit a feature film, and now that the film is complete we are ready to sell it. It will go to ebay soon if nobody here is interested - just wanted to give you guys a shot at it first.
Please PM me reasonable offers. Keep in mind that this thing weighs almost 100 lbs, so shipping will be pricey - about $100 for UPS ground in the USA. I will consider shipping internationally, but we'll definitely need to talk first. Local pickup would be ideal if you are in the Tri-State area.
