Hi all,

I'm planning to buy the fs-700.. I 'll use mainly for fashion show/fashion event and backstage.
So half the time I'll use the camera in run and gun style. what do u think about it? it's a good choice? now I'm playing with EX1R and NEX 5N...

Well, I searching for a good zoom lens (1 or 2) fast, around F 2,8 or less.

I Know the kit lens because in this months I used a little and incredible NEX 5N... but now I would like to invest in good lenses.

Sometimes I'll need to use the autofocus and automatism (maybe iris and stabilization if it possibile) so I think the better choice is the alfa lenses.

I Know there are Sony, Minolta, Tokina, Sigma.. but I'm not sure which is the best choice..

At the moment I have a lovely 50mm 1.8 E-mount.. and 18-55 KIT lens (but i do not like i very much), and a 16 mm pancake 2.8 (e-mount), also I don't like it but it'was in the kit.

Well I'd like to take a good zoom (1 or 2) from around 21-24 mm to 180-200 mm (not too heavy! :-) but fast!) :-)
in the future I would like to take a replacement for the 16mm , maybe around 20mm fixed lens and then a 70-80mm ...

So which lens I can take for fs-700 ?

thank u very much!

...and sorry for my bad english! :)

I would say go with a metabones adapter and get your self Canon 24-70mm 2.8 L I and 70-200mm 2.8 L ISII. You will have auto control over iris and IS. This is killer combination in my opinion, if you are not prime lenses guy.

...but with metabones the auto focus don't work..!?

Yeah.. it's do not work! .. If you want to have zoom lenses 24-70, 70-200 / F2.8 with autofocus you need to get Sony LA_EA2_adapter and some of expensive Sony(Zeiss) A-lenses, ( without IS ) or latest version of Sigma/Tamron/ Tokina lenses with Sony A-mounts .. ..as Sigma_17-50_2.8-OS, Sigma 24-70/2.8 , 70-200/2.8 OS ..etc.. but I would also recommend to get Sony Kit-lens 18-200 - in some situation it's a good lens....

the 18-200 kit lens is what you want

Sure its slow - but the lowlight on a bigger chip is so much better than the EX1 that the diffrence cancels out

Id like the FS700 for fashion, if you are allowed to shoot slo-mo then you will get really stable shots in without a tripod!

Because any movement is slowed down by 5 or 10 times. Makes you look like a Steadicam operator at 240fps...

But for SlowMotion Kit lens will be a problem if you have not enough light .... Also.. I found that only LED lights work well with it... and any other produce winking ...

Hmm.. fashion shows/events pulling yr own focus carrying it, not much tele

fantastic narrative lens no doubt

but the kit lens is a kind of must have for the OPs outlined desires

but well..

If you did not have any lenses which would you buy to start building a new set of lenses? (as an investment, also thinking to the future)
Canon, Nikon or Sony Alfa?

thanks!

I found a unit (body only) and picked up the new Nikon 18-300 (3.5-5.6) as a run and gun lens. 27-450? ummm ok!

Thats great. But IMO the kit lens which has auto focus and stabilization is a useful tool, especially at the end of a well lit catwalk with the models striding towards you..

I was talking af to a friend last week, we were remembering our 'af moment' in stills

It happend to both of us in the same place .. the 'wire room' of a football match (different ones), you are there going through your negatives (!) and Joe AF next door has 80% sharp while you Mr Manual Focus Do It the Proper Way, have 80% muzz..

That was the 90s, that was stills, but even so

Anyone who thinks they can outdo the FS100 AF on a closing subject with a tele is kidding themselves..

Ok it's clear!
In fact I'll need a tele mainly for catwalk (and with the help of the autofocus to follow well the models.. so I think on a lighted walkway I'll be able to use the KIT lens 18-200 NEX which can help me in argue live situation.

So the list is:
18200 / 18200 LE NEX
50 1.8 NEX (I got it)
18-55 NEX (I got it but I don't like...so i want to sell or maybe I will use with my little NEX 5N)

Now I need medium zoom light (maybe 1.8) (from 21 mm to 110mm around) for run and gun use in backstage, or party (usually very dark), what I'll be able to take?
Other basic lenses?
I want to buy good lenses but I don't want spend too much money (I saw Zeiss is very costly :-( )

thank u very much!

There are no 1.8 medium zooms (unlike an ex1)

You need to reprogram to S35 world where 5.6 is pretty shallow DOF (compared to an EX1) and 3200 is pretty clean (compared to an EX1)

17-55 2.8 is the fastet option for a mid, canon, tokina and others

I dont really like any mid zoom I can afford - its the holy grail .. only the 18-90 fuji at $38k is really right

Tokina 16-55 or Tokina 24-70, there is a contax 28-70 , canon 17-55 is OK

If I knew .. I would buy it

mainly I use a 35-70 $100 nikkor f3.5

It is important to realise that for events a EX1 or canonXF100 might be a better tool than any S35 big chip camera..

I Know that is more easy to use but it's possible also with large sensor camera, I think..
The fashion backstage and party are plenty of 5D..or other DSLR camera.. because the taste of the image it's better for this situation that are not totally live but also descriptive.. for me full frame is too much but S35 is lovely :) (I did 2 fashion event for 90% with a small 5N and the rest with EX1R, my client was amazed!
thanks
