FS-4 and Slow Motion?

Hi,
I'm still undecided about hvx or xh-a1. I really need some of the hvx features, but money is an issue.

I have searched the forum but haven't found an answer for my question:

With the Firestore FS-4:
1. Is it possible to record slow motion in crisp 480p resolution?
2. Is the 480p material really crisp? Or is it miniDV codec soup?

I hate the miniDV codec. All I really want is a sharp DVD picture. I don't need HD. I need crystal clear DVD images. Will the FS-4 supply my needs?

Answers are much appreciated. I'd love to hear all you guys have to say about this topic.

Thanks

Ok, thanks.
I also just realized that slomo is only possible in 720p.
That's ok for me.

How bad is the picture when I record to miniDV? Will it be the same bad quality as on a dvx100? Or is the image sharper? I mean significantly sharper.

I haven't shot any DV with this camera. I have shot a couple of DVCPRO50 projects and it looks very good. Great color.

Mini-DV you're talking about is the standard NTSC-DV codec. I find it pretty equal on the HVX and DVX. You think the DVX had bad image quality? If so, I'd strongly recommend Barry's books. The DVX and HVX are not like other "set it to auto and shoot" cameras. You have to work them, you have to learn them.

If you don't really need HD, stick with the DVX100, which can give you a VERY nice, clear image if it's set up correctly.

Thanks for your answers.
I think you misunderstood me in one point though.
With significantly sharper I meant sharp to the pixel. Every image converted with the dv codec gets blurred and washed out.
From what I can tell reading your posts this is the same on the hvx.

So unfortunately I'll have to spend that fortune for a fs-100.
No fs-4 right? Too bad.

I found out that it's possible to record slomo on the fs-100 ntsc version though (not for pals from pal).
Just if someone comes across this post looking for this answer.

Ok, you seem to be shifting the question around here. Let's get facts straight:

If you have an HVX200 and all you want is NTSC-DV, you can use an FS-4.

If you have an HVX200 and you want DVCPRO-HD, you have to use the FS-100.

If you use the DVX100 you should stick with the FS-4.

Is there quality difference in the FS-4 and the FS-100 for NTSC-DV? No.

Is there quality difference between DVX and HVX in NTSC-DV, yes, due to lenses and CCDs.

Can you see the difference in Post? Hardly, but if you look really hard...

In SD MiniDV, the HVX is noisier than the DVX. However, the chips are native 16x9, so shooting 16x9 in MiniDV on the HVX will give you better results than shooting 16x9 with the DVX.
