Hi,

I'm in the process of buying my first HVX. I was wondering if the FS 100 firestore is the only brand external fire store device you can use or wheher you can use other fire wire external devices like say a lacie terrabyte for footage capture?

If you want to record directly to the drive, without using P2 cards, then you have to use an "intelligent" device.
The Firestore FS-100 is the only one in wide use, as far as I know.
I know that CitiDisk makes one for the HVX also, but you don't hear much about it on here (or anywhere).

Focus recently announced the release (it may be available already for all I know) of a 160GB version of the FS-100.

Also, I will be providing a mod for the FS-100 to have removable drives so that you can continue to record all day and all night. :)
As soon as I have it up, I'll put a post about it.

just a week or two before I put it on the site, and then 1-2 weeks from that to shipping. so worse case scenario 4 weeks, best case scenario, 2 weeks til shipping.
Thanks for your interest.

Guess there a few of us waiting for the firestore forever. Picked up a third second hand firestore battery off ebay this week so enough to run it for 360 mins, plus a Tekkeon a a backup when not hand held.

What hard drives are you using? Sata? Standard usb2? Are they fast enough?
A 250 hard drive plus the 100 GB one included should be ample for a wedding shoot.

Hey Steve,

I really wanted to introduce this one first, before the monitor, but I'm at the mercy of my cable guys.

As for the tekkeon, good idea. if your FireStore battery is running low, just plug in the tekkeon, and I believe you should be able to swap out your FSbatteries without having to shut down. (I haven't done this, I go the other way. I leave the internal battery on, and swap out tekkeon one without a hitch)

As for Hard drives, they are the same specs as the ones inside the FS-100. I do have to change manufacturers for some of the different sizes. Like the 250g but I've tested it and it works.

Like I said, the 250g will record 11hrs 20mins on 720pn., so yeah, I'm guessing is good for a wedding. (it should also shoot about 5hs of full 1080 though I didn't conduct a test, so I don't have exact numbers)

You can swap out the FS-100 battery while connected to the Tekkeon since the Tekkeon will both supply power and charge the battery.

Anxious to hear about your FS-100 mod and still hoping we can connected when I'm in LA for DVEXPO.

Yes Ned,
Please do contact me when you are in town. Maybe we'll meet for lunch during the DV Expo.
