FS-100 Organize P2 won't work

Did some tests with current HVX settings, shot and imported to FCP, no problem. Did a shoot, Organize P2 function won't work. The Organize takes just a moment and Contents folder is there but no LASTCLIP.TXT file and the sub folders inside the contents folder are empty.

We shot in 720p DVCPRO-HD. Any ideas on how to get this footage to work. Focus tech support has not called back. Not encouraged on that front.

TIA

It's a FS-100 (new) w/v.3 software
DVCPRO HD record
Raw DV
FA tapeless
TC record run
TC non drop frame
Camera set to 720p 24fps

RawDV is the wrong format. It should have been P2. I don't think there is any way to salvage that footage.

Then I'm totally baffled. On page 52 of the manual, it says "FS-100 automatically detects he stream type input from the AG-HVX200 camcorder....Also selects the appropriate HDD MODE and DV FORMAT..." So Focus is lieing or at best misleading us? Why would their be a setting combination that would allow the user to lose their work? What is apparently lost now is not insignificant.

I think this unit is going back. Here's my other issues besides this mess:
- Won't recharge the battery
- Won't do what it says on page 52 and again on page 53.
- The expensive FS-4 camera mount kit won't fit the unit with supplied battery.
- 48 hrs and waiting for a call back from tech support.

We bought this with very limited Higher Ed. funds to replace our stolen P2 cards. Now we have a nice HD camera paperweight until the other Hard drive solution ships. I know, some have had zero trouble with the FS unit. I think there are far more that have had our experiences.

I appreciate your timely help. I have backed the footage files to a hard drive just in case something comes up to help resurrect this footage.

Mine works fine, and so does Ben Balser's and Ned's along with a great many others. The manual requires you to what type of footage is being captured. It's not hard, and the menu is pretty simple.

As to the battery, that's a minor issue, and if you have the larger battery, it won't fit into that mount. With the belt clip, etc. it isn't an issue for most of us.

On p. 6 of this: http://www.focusinfo.com/dynassets/documents/downloads/MANL-1037-03 (FS-100_QuickStart).pdf

it clearly states you have to set the p2 mode and in the new manual is says the identical thing.

Professor, you have to do your homework. :)

I appreciate your input. In fact, I just re-read the manual (copyright 2007 #manl-1023-08) that came with the unit and NO WHERE does it say that it 'must be set to P2 mode'.

But it's all moot now. I reformated the drive and reset the system back to stock settings. Now the unit will not recognize the drive. So I guess that final project shoot for my students tomorrow at 8am is dead.

If anyone has an idea how to fix this...I'm all ears.

P. 69

The number of options available in this menu depends on the
recorded bit rate. If recording DVCPROHD REC (100 Mb/s) or
DVCPRO50 REC modes (50 Mb/s) there are only two options:
•P2
•P2 PN DVCPROHD & 3.0 only
•QUICKTIME 3.0 only
•QUICKTIME PN DVCPROHD & 3.0 only

Quoting pages is not going to work here. My P. 69 is 'Assigning Clips to Reels'.

My unit is Sr. #24300 with a date of mfg. 5006. Not knowing how they do this date, I'm going to assume it's sometime in mid 2006. We took delivery less than 3 weeks ago. The OS version is 3.0. So why do I get such a whacked out manual? Frustrating. One can only "do their homework" with the materals supplied. I'm new to this FS thing so I would have no idea that the manual is wrong and that there might be a new Quick start guide posted somewhere.

I do appreciate the help but I fear this unit is a bad from the ground up.

Not to split hairs here, but the software installed on my FS-100 allows RAW DV to be selected under both DVCPRO HD & 50 and under DVCPRO/DV. So I have 3 options and the third is what started this downward spiral.

Got an email back within 1 hr. (at 11 pm mst no less) from Focus support. Wow. I stand corrected. Seems our FS, with only 10 hrs of run time, has died an ugly death. They will replace it. The good news is that the RAW files can be saved by playing them back to P2 cards (which we don't have because some student felt that they needed them more than others), or we can play it back through the camera to another FS. Don't have that either. I will say, that in keeping with the sketchiness of there manual and help limited files on the web site, it might be able to be done, they just don't say how. I hope to get a step by step from them soon.

So, maybe, a good ending to this ugly story line. More to come.

I download the most recent pdf manual and refer to that at the FE web site.

The point being that you have to set how you are acquiring the footage.
