FS-100/HVX settings

Hello,

I just set up the FS-100 and HVX-but I keep getting the red flashing P2 sign on the camera's LCD. The first time I set it up as 1394 control BOTH (as the manual suggests),but after reading some threads I put it on EXT. I'm not using P2 cards in conjunction w/ the firestore.

Is the flashing red P2 warning supposed to stay that way?

Thanks and best regards,

Detail the settings for both the FS-100 and the cam?

What are they?

For example, you aren't electing any 24pNative formats in the cam are you?

I have the camera set to 720 24P(not native) and everything else according to the manual. Going to quicktime native. Set control to tapeless, and at first 1394 to BOTH. I then changed to EXT, red flashing P2 still persists. Perhaps I should change from quicktime native to P2 and see if it solves the problem(?)
Thanks,

I've been told that the P2 flashing red symbol cannot be turned off. The only way to be rid of it is to actually load at least 1 P2 card into the camera. (you can still use your FS-100 set up this way).

Correct, with no P2 cards in, the HVX thinks you have no media to record to. This is why on the FS-100 you have to set it to generate it's own time code, as the HVX with no, or full P2 cards does not generate any time code at all.

Page 61 of the manual mentions TC EXT recommended for pull down applications-
what settings are you using, Ben?

By the way, I shot a time lapse test (1 frame every 6 seconds), camera set to 12 fps, 350 degree shutter-looks very nice-or perhaps it doesn't make a diference if the setting was 24p 350 degree shutter since the FS-100 is recording single frame...
So is it recording one fps @350 degree shutter? I wonder what fraction is the exposure(?)-
Normally w/ my D200 I can pick whatever combination I want; my aaton's default single frame/180 shutter is 1/4 sec exposure and on a 435 I can pick frame burst, a variety of shutter angles etc-
Also, I'm curious if Barry's frame rate hack settings can't be used to record to the FS-100(?)

Page 61 assumes the HVX is sending time code to the FS-100. The FACT is that the HVX will not send time code with no or full P2 cards. If you record with the FS-100 set to TC EXT and the HVX is sending no TC, then there's no TC on the clip until you're NLE assigns it on it's own upon import.

John, I'm confused on your Time Lapse set up. Are you using the TL in the HVX, or in the FS-100? If you're setting 1 frame per minute in the FS-100, then setting 12fps in the HVX will have no effect at all, it may even mess up the FS-100 recording properly.

As for Barry's frame rate hack, if it's being registered in the metadata, it'll work.

I was testing the intervalometer on the FS-100 itself, shooting every 6 seconds. Setting the camera to 12 fps/350 probably didn't make a difference, but shutter at 350 most likely means close to a one second exposure at 1fps(since with Barry's 2fps hack, 350 approximates 1/2 sec exposure)
Interesting that there is also a " sound time-lapse" as shown in your lawn mower time-lapse test...
I'll also test recording the frame rate hack settings going to the FS to see if it works.

As for TC, I'll probably use Regen/Rec run on the FS
Should have tried time-lapse out the plane's window on my 8 hour flight(laughs)...

Thanks again
