Hi all,

This is probably a stupid question, but does the firestore record the same information as a P2 card?

Thanks,
Peter.

They will be supported in version 3.0, and in QuickTime format, very cool. A few bugs yet to work out, but it's looking really nice!

Once you're done recording with an FS-100, there's a function you run called "P2 Organize". After that runs, you have the exact same MXF data you'd have on a P2 card.

Ben:

It seems you are a beta tester or somehow have access to the new features in v.3.

So you representing that the FS 100 with provide the equivalent of pNative footage, and simultaneously shoot to QuickTime for direct import?

Yes, as per Focus's press release, the 3.0 update will do Native recording (you still place the HVX in regular mode, not native) which gives you a ton more recording time. Plus it'll do the QuickTime re-wrap on the fly. You'll have five choices when you set up the FS to record, P2, P2 Native, QuickTime, QuickTime Native, and Raw DV. That will make it very attractive to FCP editors.

3.0 firmware upgrade will be thirty some odd dollars. You'll just update the FS-100 you already have.

B & H carries them. I'm sure other folks carry them. The update is being beta tested now, so hopefully it'll be out before Christmas. You'll get the update on-line directly from Focus.

$39 dollars! That's break the bank for sure! And Apple never let us upgrade from 5.0 to 5.1 for free, either! Why do we have to pay money for MAJOR upgrades to stuff? I can't afford $39 dollars!

Does the firestore come with a mount like the one attached. And if not where can I get one from? Can't find anyone that sells them

Yes, Focus sells that mount. There's two different ones, one to fit the regular battery, and one to fit the larger extended life battery. It's an accessory available through Focus Enhancements.

They're listed as being for the FS-4. Focus hasn't updated the web site yet, but the mounting kits for the FS-4 are the ones used for the FS-100, also.
