FS 100 as P2 Storage Drive?

Hello Everyone,

I haven't been able to find any threads on this particular thought: I was wondering if the FS 100 could be used to offload P2 Card Data to? I'm using v3.0 of the FS 100 firmware upgrade AND I'm using Avid Media Composer so I'm still having issues with being able to use any variable frame rate footage recorded on the FS 100. I know that the HVX can be connected to an external HD via firewire so...I thought maybe the FS 100? I have a laptop that reads the P2 Cards just fine but thought maybe I could record on my 8GB P2 Card, then offload the FS 100 mounted on my camera.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Nope. You'd have to offload as normal to a computer, then back to the HVX. The FS100 is not an on-the-go drive, which is needed for what you want to do.

I just did this today. Shoot footage on P2 then download to the FS 100. Funny thing tho. when I played it back it was fast forward. Then I remembered I had shot some cloud movement in timelaspe. Changed setting and all went well.

Can you share with us how you did that? Any special steps needed? It seemed like from a logical point of view, this would be doable!

My first try was 720p/24p recorded to P2 Card
Bring up Bin window Green Light MCR/VCR mode

and press Record once to arm the FS 100
Press play on the HVX then
Press Record on the FS100

FS100 settings Format P2
HDD Mode DVCPROHD
Record Normal
Fuctions FA Tapeless
Control Tapeless

I organize p2 and then open the file after going to the DD Drive and go to the Content menu and import the MXF file onto my hard drive Raid 0 then Edius Broadcast.
Sorry I cannot help with the FCP . I only have DV FCP

The reason I tried this is I will be traveling to Holland and wanted to travel light,
So I gave it a try and it works.

Thanks Mule but I was actually wanting to 'offload' data from the P2 Card to the FireStore - not 'dubbing' to it. Using the FS-100 as a storage drive.

Thanks for the info though.
