I just did my first shoot with my HVX and FS-100
what i noticed was the onscreen display was and video was being recorded .
when i started the camera rolling the on screen display went away.
Why was this happening?
Also, There were problems with the fire store , the clips that were recorded seemed to end before they were supposed to.
There were to clips that were just skipping back and for like it was hick-upping..
Help!

hmm, make sure the FS is in tapeless mode, make sure the HVX has the settings correct, (Check manual) make sure the record gets primed, and shows the pause before you record. Try a firmwear upgrade from the Focus website as well.

It's a problem with the OSD setting. Go to the DISPLAY SETUP menu and set VIDEO OUT OSD to OFF.

Hey,
What Do you mean when yo usay "make sure the record gets primed, and shows the pause before you record"
As far as the OSD being set to off...
I wanted to see the camera on an external monitor that was hokked up via composite video...
Does that mean that if the OSD out is set up that way it will also go out throught the firewire as well????
Thanks,

Ray

What i mean about priming the record is sometimes you need to hit record once to get it paused, and once more to start record. Sometimes if my FS acts up I will turn the HVX on and off while the FS is on and plugged in, then they communicate properly again.

As for monitoring the stream through component, it is deffinetly possible to have the HVX plugged into an HD monitor while recording to a firestore, the only thing that you cant do is stream from the FS into the HVX and out again into a monitor, but while the camera is in camera mode that is possible. I think it has something to do with firewire not being able to support HD playback.

I found this problem after we shot. are there any clues to look for on this while shooting?
As for the second part of my question, i think we are not on the sampe page...
I looked at the clips on the fire store and there was th OSD that was on the clip.
I have OSD on because I was using a monitor via composite to view my project, I didin't think that the OSD would go throught the fire wire onto the firestore.

Your thoughts?

Firewire connection got lose, not enough for either system to notice a suddenly missing connection (which the HVX will tell you on screen). It's happened to me once. I was using a new FW cable set up I'd not used before. Found the 4-pin on the HVX was just not snug enough. Why did Panny use the cheap ass 4-pin on the camera instead of the infinitly stronger 6-pin?

maybee because of a space problem, but 6 pin would be great, or some kind or Firewire that could "set" itself once in.

You are preaching to the choir on this one.

I have no idea why cam manufacturers elect the flimsy 4-pin FW connections

You can thank Sony for that one!

Yes, Sony created the stupuid 4-pin connector. It's one dang good reason to avoid Sony products. Stupid 4-pins, they suck! And not in the good way!
