FS-100 and 24N

If i understand this correctly, in order to use the under /over cranking it needs to be done in the 720 24PN mode. If that is correct , The FS-100 cannot record that because the 720 24PN mode does not go out the 1394 connection...
Is that correct???

The why does the new firmware for Fs-100 V3.0 say that it can record 24N???
I thought it was the HVX 1394 connection that does not allow the N mode to go through?

If this is the case, how can I get the variable frame reates without a P2 card? I just bought my HVX and my 8GB P2 rebate card hasn't gotten here yet?

1- Shoot 720p24, use whatever alternative frame rate you need in the Scene File.

2- Import without using the advanced pulldown removal in the FCP P2 Import window.

3- BEFORE placing in a Sequence, use the DVCPRO-HD Frame Rate Converter to conform it to the editing time base of your Sequence.

4- Place in Sequence, it'll give you the over/under cranked effect you shot in-camera.

on the frame rate converter , what do I check?
I see there are 3 different check boxes..and which frame rate do I select if for example I shot in 48fps?
And, does this simulate the under/over cranking being FCP version
or will this give you the exact effect that the HVX does when shooting native to a P2 card?
Thanks,
Ray

If your sequence is set to 24p, then it would be the 23.98 checkbox.

I do this all the time with or without the FS-100.

Remember that the alternative frame rate in the scene file is also related to what frame rate you have set for capture.

I see. I am trying to shoot 720 24p with the frame rate set aat 48fps..
I don't recal seeing 48fps in FCP capture , Sequense and Frame Rate Converter...

Hey Ben,
In Frame rate Converter, I didn't see 48fps as a choice..

Because there's no real 48fps editing time base. You're going to be editing in a Sequence that's either 60, 30, or 24 fps, not 48fps.

I shoot 720p24, VFR of 60. In FCP I'm editing with a 24fps Sequence. My slow motion shot is 720p24 VFR-60. So I tell the FRC to conform that clip to 24fps. So when I put it in my 24fps Sequence, the frames are spread out to comform to my editing frame rate base.

Here's the PDF from the FCP on-line help files. You can find in it FCP by going to help and searching for Frame Rate Converter. But just to make it easy, here's the PDF itself.

Just for the record:
Wrong, it can be done in both a Native mode and non-Native 720p24 mode.
