Frustrated with HD so far

So, I have tried capturing some HD video from my canon xh a1. I set the project to 1920x1080 and it will only capture in 1440x1080. I have checked the camera settings a dosen times, but it still only has one option for HD. Which is suposedly 1920x1080. Is there anyone that can narrow down what the problem might be? I have tried Premier Pro as well, but get the same result.
 
Kdawg, it's not the program. HDV is natively 1440 x 1080 and is upscale to 1920x1080 on export. All the 1080p 24p HDV camera does this. The Sony EX will be the cheapest professional camera to offer full 1920 x 1080.
 
I think the only way to get 1920x1080 out of an HDV cam is to capture uncompressed via HDMI (which I realize the A1 doesn't offer).
