GH3 Frozen Wet GH3

Put the weather sealing to a test in a snowstorm that ended up dumping 2 feet at the farm.
Filmed the horses this time and I was amazed at how useable the little EVF was.
Like the Snowshoeing film, no way to pull focus in deep snow and gloves so I actually relied on AFS as well.

Great job once again jimagine, GH3 is an excellent camera and couple with a great vision behind the lens the result are beautiful.....

Thanks, keep em coming!

Nice shooting. The 20mm 1.7 is my favorite lens.

It's the first MFT lens I've used and it's as sharp as any of my best L glass or Zeiss. I'm also surprised at the quality of the bokeh, but I really haven't had any more time with it than these two tests.

Thanks JFR, I really only got these for a specific purpose but I'm going to get the 35-70mm 2.8 immediately and have some real fun with this. I'm also really surprised that I enjoyed working with the EVF in these (or any) conditions.

Absolutely gorgeous footage, those horses are poetry in motion. It made my day to watch this.

Question: How ice covered did the 20mm f1.7 get?

That lens is not especially weather sealed, but it looks like it performed well in those conditions. I have one and love using it on the GH2's.

Thanks Bruce, I have a rubber lens hood on the 20mm and that helped keep the lens clear. I never shut the camera off and never thought about trying to put thens cap on either.
I just carried it around through the snow with it pointed down.
But it was covered in snow the entire time.
Ironically, I owe you for the way I shoot it.

I read a post of yours a couple of years ago about the Spider Brace and had Marco custom cut a couple for me that we drag around backcountry all the time.
It's perfect with the GH3 for trekking and action. It's a handle, a hanger, a rig, I can set it in the snow and lie behind it, climb with it...

Really nice footage, and a good choice of music to accompany too!

Thanks Troels,

What I'm liking the most about the GH3 is that it's a fun camera to shoot with.
They built the next generation DSLR that really focuses on film making.
When they add peaking in a firmware update it will be a pretty complete tool.
But again, it's fun to use because it's really well developed.
Things like really accurate AFS for doc and run and gun work and the ability to run the camera with your index finger on the shutter button is just perfect for this kind of work.
