Frosty Fall Morning with Lens Flares

Put this up because I liked the sun beams and frost, and thought the lens flares were kinda cool. Sometimes wish I had a better fluid head, but the 701HDV didn't do too badly.

So I just went back to using FCP after jumping to Premiere for a couple of years. It was like coming back to an old friend AND it hasn't crashed on me yet! Unlike the ever finicky Premiere. As much as I miss Premiere's ability to natively edit AVCHD, who cares when it's randomly crashing on you. The very latest version seemed more stable, but I wasn't sticking around to thoroughly test.

Transcoded to ProRes 422 using Toast 10 (thanks Martti) because I didn't have the folder structure for these clips anymore - only the MTS files. I really do like Toast for previewing and transcoding AVCHD files. But may go the log and transfer route in the future.

The only time I had a problem was with Sending to Apple Color. Had one clip that kept getting a Cancelled render. Did lots of searches and tried a bunch of stuff. No luck. Finally just opened the temp file Color had created for the problem clip with QT Player and saved it. Was able to bring that movie back into FCP and put it in the timeline. Anyone else having problems with Color? This was a really simple sequence - no motion, filters or anything. Not sure why that one clip was problematic.

Was going to use Compressor to export for Vimeo, but discovered FCP 7 has a neat new Sharing feature and I just used the YouTube preset for Vimeo. Seemed to work fine. Maybe a bit higher data rate than I'd been using, but no problems.

Whew, didn't really plan on writing this much - maybe should have gone in the Workflow section, but I don't think it would add much to what's already there.

I usually add a slight bit of sharpening, but forgot since it was a new workflow for me. Anyone think it's worth going back and adding?

Anyway, edited with FCP 24fps (no slo-mo), CC using Apple Color

Really beautiful work! IMHO, don't add sharpening - what you've got is super nice looking and I don't think additional sharpening will make it look any better.

Thanks for the compliment and advice, cowpunk52! I'll try my best to resist adding any sharpening. That said, I'll most likely feel compelled at some point to at least try it, if I have some spare time. Anal retentive tendencies, you know. But you've convinced me it's not something that needs done. Thanks.
