OTHER: From The DVX100 to Now - Here’s Why I Still Shoot Lumix

I decided to make a video to honor the camera brand that has served me so well ever since 2007.
There's a lot of footage here from the old DVX100B with the 35mm adapter (SGpro). I'm surprised at how well that footage held up for 4K upscaling.
For this video, I decided to caption all the camera and lens information for each shot.

Although working with 35mm adapters was extremely difficult for me (IIRC, I had one of the Letus' or a Brevis, something for a lot of money), that was such a special time.

Everyone misses their own nostalgia but that beautiful camera window of improving camcorders and then camcorders with 35mm adapters and then the GH2 with its unreal hacks and then the 5D Mark II, all like 2007-2012/2013, was incredible.

It's bittersweet looking at that footage; I was young, new to everything, curious about everything in that niche world, all so exciting.

I adapt to change quickly and I know life has to move on, but it hurts that life also won't be captured anymore in that rugged low-resolution quality when the tech was just getting going.

Watching that kind of footage just feels different but I know it's the heart and brain missing the past (appreciating the current but still missing).

Now, more and more every day, you have to sometimes focus on if what you're watching is real and not made by a process, ha.

I'm feeling all of this and more.

I loved the look of the Letus. But I remember going for the SGpro because of another norwegian on this forum had the SGpro r2, but I forget his name. I just loved his videos.

Every once in a while I get a comment on my SGpro videos, especially those with the Red House Painters songs, and they are always about nostalgia, friends and good times. Very often bittersweet.

What you said about that "life won't any longer be captured in that rugged low-resolution quality" strikes a chord with me.. I think this is why I very much like the film emulation tools that are going around. I don't hate clean footage. I just really appreciate some noise and texture in videos and films. It makes it feel a bit more "at home" for lack of a better term.

Appreciate the comment :)

Every now and then I pick up a random old camera on eBay to use with an external recorder (if possible) or the native media.

A few years back I got one of the last made Hi8 cams (still brand new in the box which shocked me) and some tapes.

You can barely make out what you're watching but it's the best! lol

The last film I made that had significant(for me) festival screenings was shot on the VHS camera I bought in 1998. Shooting it was so much fun. The camera was a JVC GR-SZ9. A Super VHS-C camcorder with manual exposure, mic jack, built in video FX...all the bells and whistles.
I was kind of surprised at how good it looked blown up on a big screen.

Yes! I recently purchased an XF200 and that feeling immediately returned. It cannot be overstated how great it is when things just work how you want them to right out of the box.
