FreshDV Brevis Flip Review

Great video.
Answers many a mystery. However, I think you mean 4 stops from 1.4 to 5.6. Still that's phenomenal. I think I may come back to the Brevis fold. Your product has made leaps and bounds since I had one.

Tim, this is true..and it's about to get a lot better. There are three projects in the works that will take the unit to a level of sophistication users like you have been pushing for. The rails have progressed to a level that we're very happy with. Expect an ENG height adjustable base plate to be added to the system in about 2 weeks. The solid carbon fibre rods (in 60cm) will work very nicely with the HPX500 and it's larger brethren.

f1 to f1.4 + f1.4 to f2.0 + f2.0 to f2.8 + f2.8 to f4 + f4 to f5.6 = 5 stops total that the camera "should" be seeing in a linear system. Our baseline starts using a lens at f1.4, so you're correct in saying that we are testing another four, not five, stops in.

Dennis, I would want to know more about whether the DOF changes with those f stops. You said it did your tests, but in mine I saw no change in DOF indicating that the adapter just didn't see the change in f stops at all. For the user they are very different scenarios. I need to go back and look at mine again. As I should get my flip before 10:30 tomorrow morning I hope to have some answers soon.

Unfortunately I will probably not be able to take careful pics and post them until I get a chance to do things carefully with a partner. Too time consuming.

By the way where is P2 from the fresh DV review?

I'm guessing it's coming soon. Matt and Kendall seem to be two of the busiest guys around.

We did (quite a while ago now) a test series using film vs CF1/L/Le and there was definitely a change in DOF as we stopped down the lens. If in doubt, try the test but using a specular hightlight somewhere in frame.
