Freight shipping?

I didn't see any FAQ about shipping or selling in general, so I just thought I'd post and ask.

I'm considering selling an Arri kit. What is the best way to ship a heavy item like this? Is it UPS freight? UPS Ground? Some other shipper or method?

An ARRI kit? You mean like fresnels or something? Those are heavy.

If it was me selling them, I would definitely try to sell it locally first, then go and get quotes from the big guys (UPS, FEDEX, etc) just to get an idea of what it'll cost for what type of service (standard, express, etc). IMO, it should be the buyer making the decision of which shipping company/service to use.

In my experience, glass + UPS = destroyed. Most of the bigger guys won't insure packages containing glass if the products are not high-value.

Yeah, it is heavy! I am thinking locally first. But I live in Philly, not L.A....this isn't the biggest film/video market. Course, NYC is close.

Still, I just wanted to keep my options open in terms of who I can buy from me. I didn't want to exclude people for being too far away.

I didn't think about the glass and insurance issue. Any more info on that? Or where I can look it up?

NYC is not only close, it's cheap! I take a bus from chinatown and if I plan well ahead I can go back and forth for $2! ($1 each way)
Don't know how they make money though...
You should definetly try to sell it in NYC!
Good luck with that and post some pick for the fun of it.
