Free Your Mind

Re: Free Your Mind

Matt great job as always. I just wanna say that you guys shouldn't be putting steven down. There's nothing wrong with his music. I think its great that he's doing something with his career. We should be supportive and encourage everyone to live out their dreams. Hey Steven, if you are reading this, keep it up man! Matt, i think the video is awesome dude. I know you are going places.

peace out

Re: Free Your Mind

Commenting on the 'song' or 'model' is merely commenting on all of the parts as a whole. If the chick was fugly it wouldnt really work would it? To say "I think the song sucks" is simply an opinion of musical choice.

Re: Free Your Mind

Listen, if you want sexually arousing women, watch a porno (to cover my ass and to avoid being labelled sexist: Same goes for guys if you swing that way.... not that theres anything wrong with that)

Re: Free Your Mind

Hey Matt,

2 questions..

What did it cost to get the model?
Can you post a movie of just her? ;)

Re: Free Your Mind

You guys are kidding about the chic right? I mean c'mon she's aight, in a college town like Toledo i'm gettin' some ass after the keg party kind of way. I don't know, maybe i'm just a pimp but of smashed better and that's my word. Any way i'm a Matt fan and i thought the video was cool. I don't think this video was half as hot as the other videos Matt has done. Could be that Matt was not feeling the material cause duke is trash musically...i mean good night i watched it with the sound off, but i'm not knockin' Matt for puttin in the work. I'd love to see him kind of step out of what I see as a comfort zone and engage in a different type of video. Just feels kind of formulaic not like this is what we see on MTV everyday, but this is how Matt makes videos.

Re: Free Your Mind

Re: Free Your Mind

You must be trying to play them from his website. Someone in this thread has a link to the actual video. Search this thread and get that. Watch it!

Re: Free Your Mind

The budget for the video was roughly 3k including car rentals, flghts, the model, equipment rental (a crane and wide lense), power generator, water pump/hose, food... everything. The money mostly went towards the hotel rooms. The entire shoot was guerilla cept the parking lot. We acted like we owned where we shot and got away with everything before anyone called management/the police. It wasn't intended to be this way, but because the models flight was almost a day late all the location times were shifted. So it was emergency scouting and what not (I had a lot of places in mind immediately because I enjoy exploring/driving around aimlessly). I originally built a fairly large white set that I tore down because I wasn't satisfied. We ended up obtaining a key to an office building in Boston, where there was an empty floor. We took a lot of time setting things up to get a nice washed background using sheets and reflective white boards/paper. The monitor bust put a hole in the wall and made a gigantic mess of glass (3 takes, 3 monitors). The buildings security has since been raised to a rediculous level, you now need to talk to a security personel before boarding the elevators, and need a digital swipe card. I'm sure its due to our vandalism because it was put into effect just a week after shooting. (however, the monitors were brought in, im not that much of a rebel.... we left them there which was dumb). Matt Murphy from OH (shot making the video, coming soon) messed up his jeep trying to bust through a gate to shoot the rain sequence (we ended up breaking the chain with a hammer and screwdriver). It was a parking lot in the middle of NOWHERE so it didnt matter how loud we were, thank god (a diff parking lot from the dry stuff.) From begining to end it was a complete nightmare, ive never gone without sleep for so long, my feet were literally blue by the last day from standing. The model was the best off because of the speed she had, however I was afriad of it because it caused lung inflation and extreme fat loss (im already a stick). I stuck with redbulls to get through each night. Probably got less than 6 hours of sleep the whole 4 days. 2 complete all nighters in a row mess with your head. Anyways everyone goes through a hell shoot once in a while, I just needed a vent. God bless.

Back to drinking my water 8)

Re: Free Your Mind

Although she's hot, she must not be very bright, because at this point, he's able to seduce her with more of the lyrics that actually feel like they're corroding my brain cells.

Bwahahahahahahaha!

I don't think I've seen a musician more universally disliked on this board than the guy that hired Matt for this video. Even though he comes across gay (ATNWWT!) I guess I'm feeling a little sorry for him. Matt made an outstanding video, and we need more clients like these who will spend $3K for us to do what we love.

Really, Matt is dealing with something that we music video makers are going to (or have already) dealt with: not necessarily liking the artist for whom you are working. The last three bands I've shot were ones I didn't really like very much. But my job as the director and editor is to make the band look as good as possible. I would say that Matt and his crew met that objective.

About the commentary on matching the story to the song: I gave up a long time ago hoping that hip videos would contain any kind of meaningful message; Matt is just following the genre.

Anyway, pop music usually doesn't have a real message, so it should be no surprise that the video laid on top of that type of music needs a hot chick and wind in the elevator to punch up its otherwise insipid non-spirituality.
