Wow! Awesome dude! You took a crap song and made it enjoyable to watch and bearable to listen to. Like Speed said, I totally forgot how sucky the song was until it was over and I could still hear it in my head w/o all the imagary to go along with it. Very impressive.
I'm just blown away by your smooth camera movements, the silky smooth continuity between shots, the lighting, the transitions, the slow-mo and speed ramps, the timing was dead on. Your editing skills are top notch, very professional, can't wait to see what the future holds for you.
The only shot that bothered me a bit was when the monitor and then guitar exploded into pieces, you had 2 different background clips with pieces falling in front of them. I didn't like the second background shot much, it looked too 2-dimensional, like the glass was just falling in front of the lense with no depth. The first one looked a little better b/c it seemed to be the TV's perspective. I don't know, just a minor constructive critisism on my part, but dude overall amazng work!
P.S. - Why do I get the feeling the singer didn't enjoy kissing that smoking hot babe?
HEY! Comon now, Steve's song ain't that bad, damn!
Great job
Nitpicks: Some of the shots seemed to be out of sync with the song, it just felt offbeat, perhaps this was Mr. Knight taking away your artistic licence and telling you how he wanted something done, but, oh well
With Quicktimes I've found it is easy for the sound and video to get out of sync. If you pause the video, and then restart it should get back into sync. Don't ask my why...but I didn't notice any sync issues on my machine, it felt right and seemed timed perfect.
Unhappy???? What??? That guy should be eternally grateful to you for turning such a suck song into something worth watching, and paying you a bunch of extra money for the amazing job you did.
Geeeez....I have a question, what's this guy's problem and what doesn't he like about it?
I can feel you on that one Matt. We did a video, I think some of you saw it in an earlier thread. Everyone we showed loved it, and when the band saw it, they wanted all this stuff changed and completely redone which would have ruined it. Sometimes the artists can't see past things.

I feel your pain. That was such a great video I can't believe the artist is not happy.
He doesn't realize how much he should be grateful to have such a talent behind the camera working with him.
Good luck to you. I still can't wait for your next one!! Just think happy thoughts and know that MR. Free Your Mind will soon be a memory!
LOL. Actually I wouldn't be suprised if that wasn't too far off, DvPixl. She does kinda outshine the guy... but then a dripping wet girl in her underwear could distract from a nuclear holocaust, so that's not saying much.
Matt- the guy had better be paying you for overtime on this, otherwise just tell him you're sick of working on it and leave it at that. Move on.
Looks really good though, BTW. Only drawback is the music and occasional overediting. The shots where she first walks into the parking lot though... good lord, those were phenomenal. I still can't figure out why, they just grabbed me. The wind in the elevator & the stairway shots were also amazing. Excellent job. This thing looks like it was a blast to shoot!
Oh, you know what you should do? Dub the entire thing over with a completely different song, by Nickelback or something, and then send it to him as the edit you're happiest with.
Or maybe Enya. Dunno which would make a stronger point. LOL.
How about this - he wants me to make another cut "doing my own thing, but just different" whatever that means. I'll do a poll vote or something. I'll have the modified version in a week or so and he agreed to let me keep the video online for constructive critque and whatever.
;D Dont worry matty, listen, I think he (if hes anything like me, since when i first saw him i was like, damn, hes almost half as sexy as i am) will want more shots of him and less of her, not because of homosexuality, but because of narcissism...
For example, if i took my camera around my house and took some grabs, I guarantee you, youd find atleast 1/3 grabs had a picture of me on the wall...
This reminds me of the story when the ratings board wanted Hitchcock to recut the PSYCHO shower scene because it was too violent.
If I remember correctly, he took the film scene and sat on it for about a month or so and resubmitted the same cut to them and they responded....."Much better."
If only that would work on him. ;D
I have a feeling that he's doing what the artist for my video was doing....wanting more screen time and (in his mind) being less upstaged by the hot girl.

That's too bad since it's another great video Matt. But, hopefully he only wants minor changes and/or simply wants to have the final edit released to the public. And we are the public in some ways.
Also, I've dealt with people that find it very difficult to release a work they are involved with that isn't done to their level of perfection. Sometimes that level can never be reached. Perfectionists can be their own worst critic.
hey great vid Matt! very professional looking, i would say it is right up there with 80-90% of the stuff mtv shows.
you definitely have the right recipe for this kind of video. techie/poppie song+hot chick+slo motion+rain+cool locations+cool car+breaking glass. I would say you have hit on most of the things that make for a cool/flashy video.
great compositions, and editing, maybe the editing is a bit too flashy, but, it totaly works for this kind of video.
the song is pretty gay (and no, there is nothing wrong with that!)
Id say you have a great future ahead of you. your already doing great for someone so young. keep it up! i look forward to seeing you develope more of your own style...and a few short films!
