Don't forget that the free Tropfest DVD is available today, Saturday 27th with you Sydney Morning Herald or Melbourne Age newspapers.

Off to get mine now.

Watched them last night and I must say I was underwhelmed (again sadly).

Sure they're better than I could do, but I was expecting a lot better considering the number of entries received.

Did anyone here enter?
Am I a jaded viewer and hard marker?

I was DOP/editor on an entry that didn't make it to the final sixteen and I'm not sure that there was a million miles between them.

Maybe there's a lot of entrants feel that way after seeing the sisxteen. Of course it's all subjective, that's why I hate judged sports at the Olympics. Have you entered it in any other contests?
Are you from OZ?
Did you have know actors?
Getting Pia Miranda involved usually seems to do the trick, regardless of how crap your film/idea is.

I hate to bag filmmakers efforts, perhaps I was a little harsh in my initial criticisms as there were a couple I didn't mind, but I was expecting more, a lot more. A couple of them really, really, irritated me for some reason.

Of course it's all subjective

Yep indeed ...

.. but it wasn't my project. It was rushed, poorly planned, under-rehearsed and the writer/producer/director figured it could all be "fixed in post", so I had no expectations that it would make it anywhere near the finals.

However, having seen the final sixteen, some (most) of those I wouldn't have considered finals material either, so maybe I was wrong about what is considered to be "finals" quality for Tropfest.

so maybe I was wrong about what is considered to be "finals" quality for Tropfest.

Even I might have a crack at it this year.

BTW: As I understand it, a team of "experts" select a final list of 30 or so films then Poulson himself selects the finalists from that.

We all know here "downunder" what the definition of an "Expert" is.
You only have to look at our "TV" movie critics, they are just that, Movie critics, Not Movie makers.
When I first started work years ago, a colleague said to me, don't worry tom, "If your no good on the shop floor, They'll promote you into management".
that I've seen now for many years in lots of companies. Good/Great people are still very hard to find in my opinion.

Cheers
Tom K
