Free Lance Editor

It hasn't been removed. It was renamed "Distribution/Marketing".

You'll need to start with production/post-production houses in your area, especially if you don't have your own (industry competitive) NLE and edit suite. However, with no tangible experience (an established resume and a reel with real-world samples) I wouldn't expect to find work as an editor right out of the gate. You may have to start as an assistant editor, logging footage and prepping edit sessions. Do that for a while, and you'll eventually move up to editor if they feel you've got what it takes. And that's just reality.

I wouldn't mention your income goal as you look, either... that's realistically only a couple days' work per month for an assistant, maybe a day for an editor.

Between Philly, Atlantic City, and Wilmington there are several production houses, as well as a few network affiliates (NBC, ABC, CBS, FOX). Cast a net far and wide.

Honestly, Andrew... you need to seek employment. Do anything. Bag groceries. Sweep floors. Make coffee. Income is income, and if that's your situation then you cannot afford to be picky. Trying to find something that's just enough to cover two of your bills is not going to get you anywhere, and no one is looking to hire a freelancer for one or two days a month.

You're going to have to do this the old-fashioned way: start at the bottom and work your way up.

350 was my day rate about 8 years ago...Don't set your sights so low if you want to edit as a career. You'll probably be hard pressed to find much freelance work without a strong reel. I worked on staff at several places for about 7 years before I was able to go freelance full time. I made that leap mainly because I was turning down too much interesting work. Figured I could make the same amount of money doing half as much work as I was doing on staff. Been doing it for 7 years now without a slow down. The key to sustaining it for me has been having a few reliable clients who provide steady work, and casting about for other one off jobs.

Post an ad on Craigslist advertising your ability to edit a short film/music video/documentary/commercial for $25 a day! :Drogar-Love(DBG):

Odd how our minds work... Mine went there immediately, too.

Then again, I've always want to join a protest carrying a big orange sign which says "End Road Work".

From wikipedia--

"Lance Editor. Born 1972. Jailed 2003 for multiple film-related offenses, including -- failing to match action, cutting from a medium shot to a medium close up of the same angle, out of sync audio, using comic sans font, capturing to a usb drive, and worst of all, editing reality television."

I must agree with Alex H., do anything. No one is going to want to hire someone that is DESPERATE. That goes for actors, writers, stunt performers...all across the filmmaking spectrum. It reeks from a person when they show up to ask for a gig. Now, if you are on some sort of disability where you are unable to work, different story, then editing is a great gig if someone has a challenge. I speak from experience, fought in too many wars, and now as I age, wounds keep me from doing the physical labor. Fortunately, I have been writing for a long time, and my attitude is, rewriting is where the magic happens. It's the attitude that they sense, even before you walk through the door. Take Alex's advice, bag groceries, sweep floors...we've all done these type of gigs. Most importantly, CUT UP THE DAMN PLASTIC!
