F55: Free Hardware Upgrade?

wondering if that new SDI board might in fact add more functionality down the road then Sony is leading on right now. For now its only to improve possible short circuiting that can exist when hooking up or disconnecting SDI devices, but I wonder......

I wonder if 4k out will be added to the f5 via hardware upgrade, at first I thought thats what this was. Be nice to connect a 4 K monitor/external recorder to the f5.

thats kind of the first thought I had when I read SDI board.

I know F5 owners want 4k out bad, but as a F55 owner who paid $10,000 more for that ability (along with global shutter and internal 4k XAVC) I'd be pretty pissed now for Sony to add it just like that, well for free anyway.

But realistically that's just the way it is with technology, look at the $3600 slog option on the F3 that eventually became somewhat free in the end.

And if they do it will massively devalue the brand. Nobody will pay for a Premium Camera system from Sony again if they devalue the F55 less than a year after launch. The F5 is a fantastic camera, and the F55 is better, that's why it cost more.

Cameras, like all electronic gadgets, get devalued. 4K on F5 should be the least of your worry. Half a dozen 4K fullframe cameras in 2014 (from Sony and Canon among others) will blow your mind do the job of devaluing older cameras. Stop worrying about 4K on F5. That would be least of your concern if you thought you are buying a digital camera as investment.
