After several professional shoots with the HVX, I have been very impressed with its solid perfomance and telling everyone how the new revolution in digital filmmaking is here, and what a tough, robust camera, until...
I was on an interview shoot yesterday, and after setting the lighting, props, and talent, everyone was eager to start rolling. So everything is set, lighting and composition looking good, I go ahead, pushed the record button, and nothing happened! The timecode froze, then after three/four seconds, an error flashed on the screen saying internal system errror with the P2 card! I went into the clip menu and it said my clip was corrupted. In a frantic, after-all my talent and everyone was waiting to go, I re-booted the camera, tried again, same thing happened, the camera would not record, system error was displayed again. I then tried switiching the P2 to the second slot, same thing. I couldn't possibly believe it was my P2 card, I take care of the p2 like a baby, always protected in the case, and careful when loading.
So, my last idea was that it was somehow related to my scene files on the memory card. I was using the contrast settings that I downloaded from the scene-file forum here in this community forum. I had the camera read a different setting, one that I had originally, and viola, the camera purred to my delight (and incredible relieved), and was able to finally start shooting.
So, I am very curious as to what was happening. Were my scene files corrupted? Or did it have to do with my p2 card? Could it just have been a coincidence that after changing the scene file my HVX started shooting again? I want to get to the bottom of this, as I want to avoid this from happening again.
