Freaking Component Cable

Well,
both our cables haven´t been used much, but both seem to be already broken...
Maybe it`s only the RCA to BNC adapters, maybe it´s the connection on the HVX - I don´t now, I read many complaints about the cable so far.
My question is, has anyone successfully modified the cable or DIYed one to make it more reliable?
(Please, don´t tell me yours is fine and you use it without problems, this just doesn´t help me and just builds up my frustration;o) )
How is the connector on the HVX side called and what cable would I have to buy to build my own?
Thanks!

I hate the D4 connector... it constantly gets loose during shoots. I have to jiggle it or unplug it from the camera and plug it back in like every other take. Would rather it was HDMI.

If the camera is still under warantee try to exchange the cable with your dealer. If not buy a new cable and if it works fine then it was a blown cable. A new cable is worth less than the lost productive/paid/unpaid time if you spend more than an a couple hours trying to make it work or repair/upgrade it.

But in case yours isn't and you would like to DIY, here is the wiring diagram from panasonic. Good luck:)

Thanks!
Although it could be Chinese and I wouldn´t notice;o)
Actually I was thinking of building a really sturdy cable with about half the length of the original one.
I´d like to even soldier the BNCs together somehow to take the strain of the tiny end cables and build some "wraparound" to really fix the D4(thanks!) to the HVX body...
I have no clue how to do it yet, but I want this fixed, because I already lost valuable time on a shoot ending up not using the SWIT HD monitor at all, because the picture was simply unusable...
Now I just need time to deal with all this;o)
Thank you guys!

Clairmont Camera makes there own cables with bnc tips at the ends...

But I wouldnt say they were more reliable. I still went through 3 off them on a big commercial last year.

The problems is the D connector. Its wonky, cheap, and its in a bad location on the camera.

In retrospect HD-SDI or a more solid connection would have been a much wiser choice. But it is what it is and you deal with it.

I recommend using tension relief on the cable with the velcro hand strap on the side. This way there is no strain at the D connector.

must chime in here and ***** a little. i love the hvx but the component connector is crap. always cutting out and have to jiggle to get it working again. i know the hvx is still considered "prosumer" but having to jiggle something to make it work is rediculous. i have had this problem with every hvx i have ever used and i have used quite a few.

Cable solution

Glad to find other people with this problem.

I have two cables since I have two cams. Both gave me the same issues listed here on the first use of either of them. The problem definately appears to be at the camera connection.

I am planning ashoot in So America with the HVX's, since this was the only real issue on the last gig, I am calling comprehensive INC to see if they can make one tomorrow.

I specifically need a longer cable, and want one with bnc's and more flexibility.

I'd appresiate ANY ideas someone has.

I am using the HVX with the new btlh 80w monitor for this shoot.

Love to hear a solution for this cable issue...

i think the problem is the connector itself it's just not solid. the only thing holding it together are the two hooks on either side. even with a strain relief it moves too much to maintain contact. maybe if they went with a vga type connector with thumbscrews it would be better.
