Franklin the Flying Weinerdog

Hi all,

I've lurked around here for a while and am proud to anounce that I've got a few videos shot with a DVX100 on my site. Most recently I just finished a short, "Franklin the Flying Weinerdog," and I would love to get some feedback. Only some shots are with my Panasonic... the rest are with a Sony DSR-200/A. Can you spot which ones? I avoided 24P so I could match the Sony. I also shot a music video, "Out of Me," a while back that's part 30P slowed to 24P and part true 24P. Gimmicks abound! Feedback is appreciated!

Hey Paul.. what is the purpose of zipping that flic, I mean you only saved a couple of points in size. Anyway, I thought the movie was cool loved the dog animation. Was this a school project or just done for laughs? The acting had some good moments but the villians laugh...Well, it was annoying as hell. Good job overall. It kinda looks like something that with a few revisions might sell to a kids station :)

Re: Franklin the Flying Weinerdog

Thanks! The zip is to prevent the play-as-you-download, which can result in having to stop the movie halfway to buffer.

It started as a school project and I finished up the audio and whatnot after I graduated... "for fun."

LOL

Man that was so funny HAHAH

Good job Paul. My favorite shot was when that dude waited to get hit by the metal pole HAHAHA

But yea, the animation and special effects werent half bad either. The dog was really cute - Probably could have made a few more barks or whines to give him a bit more personality but I liked him - better than lassie!

Where did you film this btw? Its a really neat location

He lists the locations at the end of the film. It was shot in several locations.

Re: Franklin the Flying Weinerdog

Well I'm glad you guys are liking it overall!

Locations were pretty obscure overally. I did a lot of location scouting by scouring people's personal vacation sites online. Kind of weird research, but I think it paid off. The bridge was a 3 hour hike from the nearest "road," which is an hour drive from the nearest actual paved road. Fun do do with all the equpiment, costumes, and water bottles.

If anyone was curious, the DVX shots were the train interiors and the wooden staircase exteriors. It matches reasonably well... I don't think I could have gotten away with CamA/CamB shots, but between scenes it's not really noticeable, although I feel like the colors are more saturated than the Sony DSR200 would've been at those same locations.

Thats really smart! Which sites did you visit in particular? www.ofoto.com? roguewinter.com?

Re: Franklin the Flying Weinerdog

I just did Google searches for basic types of locations, only to find that a lot of people keep careful logs of their vacations online. One guy even had a map that he made on how to get to the bridge. It was great shooting so far away from cities because I didn't have to deal with permits or security.

Hi all,

I'm bumping this thread just once to point out that I'm prepping for my next project, the more ambitious "The Mustachioed Bandit Meets His End," and I NEED a DP! This time around, I won't be doing everything myself. I have posted more info on the Jobs section at http://www.dvxuser.com/V3/showthread.php?p=261294.

Don't hesitate to send me any questions,
Paul
