Framerate randomly jumps from 24fps to 25fps

I bought my HPX170 used on these forums and it looks like the owner before me liked to shoot a lot of variable framerate stuff (for snowboarding) and even employed the hack to open more framerates. I've since wiped these settings and reset the scene files, but I'm still getting this weird problem where the camera sometimes strangely shifts to 25fps when I record in 24fps, 720pN mode.

I usually notice when I look down and see I'm not getting any audio, and sure enough I look up and see on the monitor that it is recording in 25fps, even though the scene file and everything was set for 24fps.

Any idea of what is happening here? Some sort of bug in camera?
Is there a way for me to reset the firmware in the camera?

I don't know how this happens but it's really annoying when I shoot.

Any suggestions on what it could be?

The "hack" isn't really a "hack" -- you don't change the firmware at all; you just take advantage of a loophole in the firmware to give you rates you can't select by the camera controls alone. It's no different than manually choosing and uploading any other part of a scene file, and if you reset all the scene files to factory default, then you've eliminated the "hack." (It wouldn't randomly change frame rates in the middle of shooting, anyway.)

Sounds like you may have a deeper, more systemic problem.

The frame rate is set in the scene files, and there are six different scene file positions, so -- have you gone through and put each and every scene file in "film cam" and then verified that the frame rate is either "24" or, better yet, "default"? Maybe one of the settings is set to 25fps and you've bumped the scene file dial?

I don't think I've bumped the scene file dial...but perhaps I've been doing so. That would make the most sense. I will go through and set all the scene files to "film cam" and "default" as you suggested.
Out of curiosity, is there something else on the camera that could switch the framerate besides the scene file dial?
I don't think there is, but just want to make sure.

Hi Van,

The 3 User Assigned Buttons on the side can be set to change framerates(under/over crank).
Those buttons can be bumped pretty easily, but idk.

Yes! Thank you guys so much!

Good to see you on here, Nick. I'll see you again in Boston next year.

Cheers, bro! Glad that's solved. Those buttons can be pesky sometimes. Have a great summer! See you in Boston for sure.
