Frame rates and tapes

Hello to everyone.

So, after reading and reading for days in this forum, I'll be going out today to have my first test shooting 24p. I'll be doing a one camera wedding (I know is crazy but that's what it is) for a good friend of mine and I'm trying to decide if I should take the risk and go with 24p. Maybe be worthy. So, I'm outside today to practice. (wedding will be in Miami outside starting at 5pm)

I have one question to start with.

Do you shoot with different frame rates in the same tape?
For example, if you do 24p for some parts, 60i for another (for slow motion)
maybe even switching to 30p if the light is too dark?
and if you do, do you write down, take notes?

How do you go about this?

I only shot 30p so far and never had to change frame rates. Sorry for the newbe question.

Hey, thanks to all of you for being part of this, I'll be around every day, learning from this community.

Peace to all.

Hey man,

You seem to know your stuff pretty well. (when to use what frame rate)

So I'll try and give you my best.

Shooting frame rates on the same tape is no biggie. The problem is capturing. You have to capture 24p, and 29.97 differently. So yes, you will have to make some kind of a book mark. My suggestion is either of the following:

Write down the timecode when you switch frame rates. So 00:00:06:00- 00:00:07:00 you use 24p, and 00:00:10:00 - 00:00:12:00 you use 30p.

Or you can just put down color bars in your camera (one of your user settings) and then you can just remember. Put the color bars before and after you shoot that frame rate.

I'd suggest the time code idea, but it's your own opinion.

thanks Robbie. That's what I thought, just making sure.

BTW. Loved the SAW inspired video test you put up. Great work.

more later.
