Frame Rate Question...

The production company I work for recently gave me the OK to start shooting 24P. If I shoot 24P and edit in 24P I have to transfer back to mini DV because this is the format I need to hand in to our TV station to broadcast our show.

Now my question is during this transfer, can 24P footage be broadcast on to live televison? Or does it have to be converted to the standard 30???

Also if i transfer 24P to 30, how will that affect the quality???

Thanks.

Mini DV tape runs at 30P/60I regardless of shooting frame rate; The only problem you might have is 24P might not look as smooth played back at the 30P/60I rate that MiniDV records/plays at. So you can shoot 24P, capture 24P, but as soon as you lay back to tape it does a pull down to 30P/60I.

Yeah but will that broadcast on LIVE television? In other words, does that transfer mess with broadcast compatibility???? Thanks for the help.

As far as I know it doesn't have a problem..... We've only done closed circuit broadcasting with DVX material and we haven't had a problem with it, but due to my small knowledge of Broadcasting I woundn't know for sure.

We've rolled 24p shows at my station. Shot on the DVX actually, and they look great! Now, I will say that they shoot and capture into a hard drive, and that is then transferred to DVD, and then we dump that onto a server that rolls all our other shows. So I'm not sure what happens when you have to dump back to tape. But all of this is without knowledge of your stations workflow. Do they still roll tapes at your station, or do they run shows off a server?

Yes everything on Mini DV is recorded to tape at 29.97 interlaced.

30p and 60i are two different options altogether. One being progressive and the other interlaced.

But this is where I myself am stuck now :S There some information I am missing that is not joining the two sides of my brain.
