GH2 Frame Rate Import Question - help is super appreciated!

Hi!

I feel incredibly stupid about this problem...but cannot figure it out.

I recently shot a sports event on the GH2 with the intention of shooting at 720p60 and later conforming some of these clips to 24p in FCPX. On my GH2, I went to "manual movie mode" and chose "720p" in the "Rec Quality" submenu. This means I was shooting 720p60, right? Once 720p is chosen, I don't see frame rate options...

I have imported this footage into FCPX. When I click on the clips, the info menu in FCPX says they are "1920x1080" and "29.97i". My confusion here is two-fold:

1. I thought I shot in 720p60 based on the settings I identified above...
2. As far as I have read, my camera cannot shoot in 1080 at 29.97 -- a setting available only in HBR mode, which comes from an update my camera does not have.

What am I doing wrong?

Very grateful for any insight.

Thank you!

@zucked - 720p is an option in the "Rec Mode" menu. "Rec quality" is a different menu, but you wouldn't have seen a "720p" option there so I'm guessing you were in Rec Mode.

The other rec mode option is 1080i at 29.97, so it IS possible that you could have selected that by by mistake. (The HBR mode that came with the update is 1080p ...1080i was always there).

Thanks a lot for the reply. I'm typically pretty careful, though, and I'm feeling confident that I was in 720p mode. Is there any way I could have shot in 720p60 and still experience the weird import results (mentioned in original post) in FCPX?

In a worst-case scenario, keep in mind that 1080i can be deinterlaced into 720P60 without it looking too awful.

@Jim...haha....yeah.

@Graham: Again, very much appreciate the help. Could you possibly outline a simple process through which to do that? I'm basically working with FCPX, Davinci Resolve 10, and Compressor.

@zucked - I'm on a PC, and use Avisynth scripts to deinterlace. So that's probably no help, sorry. The free trial of Cineform used to include HDLink, which I think was cross-platform: that included deinterlace and resize ... but now that they are Go-Pro I'm unsure.

I'm sure some Mac folk can help....
