These are some quick frame grabs I pulled from a series I worked on recently. They are all original and unprocessed.. ie. straight from the F55 camera.
Any particular reason for opting for the Cinegamma over SLOG Dennis? To my eye, I can never quite shake the videoish-ness (let's call that a word) of the Cinegammas.
A couple reasons, one is the footage would be going straight to editing without any budget for color correction to pull images out of slog. But probably the more important reason was it had to fit the look of previous episodes that were already shot and it wouldn't make sense to all of the sudden implement a new "look". Hence a more TV bright look, and mostly shot around f8, etc..
It definitely has a videoish look to me as well, which I am not a huge fan of myself. But knowing it fit the bill for the client made it perfectly fitting.
EDIT: I also think with a bit of grading these image could get a slight filmic look to them. There are not a lot of highlights in this scene to reveal any videoish clippiness so probably with a bit of effort the videoish look could be slightly pulled out. But admittingly I haven't tried yet.
I think the crisp detail in the eyes is particularly attractive in these shots. I'm not averse to the fact that it looks digital. However, if you wanted to, can you back down the edge detail with this HD acquisition format?
The F55 is a lot of camera. I think the ability to get a deliverable that doesn't need too much post work is a very valuable aspect of the new Fs.
You can definitely play with the detail settings in the camera to reduced edge and crispness, etc.. but I typically shoot with all settings "reset" to factory and do most of my tweaking in post. Once you impact an image recorded in-camera it can be tough to get back,.
