Frame Grabs from my first AF100 project (doc)

A few screengrabs from a 60sec documentary I'm working on for a competition. Shot about 90mins and need to get it down to 1min! Shot using AbelCine's 5dMk2 preset with the detail and vdetail turned up to -4. Lenses used Super Takumar 55mm F2 and Jupiter-11 135mm F4. Night shots were with the Takumar at F2, ISO was 1250.

I quite like the look of the AF101 footage, very different to my 550D but in a good way.

That's really solid stuff man, good job. :)

Hey thanks! Got a bit carried away and shot everything VFR at 50fps. Slo-mo isn't great when you're trying to cram as much as possible into 60 seconds!

I really like the low light capabilities of the camera. Sure there is noise but the lens was at F2 and the blacks are nice and deep.

Really digging the look it's quite crisp. What was the post process on these shots. Any amount of denoising?

All the shots are just straight out the camera with no denoising. I think the angler shots have a bit of contrast added but that's it. Also the shots of the angler were done with detail at -7 and vdetail at -7. So I think they aren't as crisp as I would like. The rest have the detail turned up.

When you view the screens full size they aren't particularly crisp but that is just my bad focusing and handheld work. Think an EVF with a digital zoom would really help me out.

night shots look really good. I especially love the setting for the guy in the night; the round bokeh behind him is beautiful. really adds to the shot. and yes, much different than dslr, but a world of wonderful difference=]. good luck cutting!

Hi guys. I've clipped the thing together for the most part. Editing all this footage down to 60sec is tough. I'm happy with the 3 guys I chose to include and I'm happy with all the shots for the most part (AF100 is awesome in low light!). My only problem now really is the edit. The end is so abrupt but I want to cram so much into 1min.

I will edit a long version with all my contributors but for the competition I need 1 solid minute. 1 sec over and it won't be accepted. Any comments or advice on this rough cut?

I like the footage and how it was cut however it didn't give an ending if that makes sense.

I felt like it was still trying to keep going. You need a strong shot like mentioned above and a strong V.O. that lends itself to an 'ending'.

Really like it has a really good look. And it does appear the AF100 is good in low light. I couldn't make it full screen however since it's a private video. Yes I wanted to pixel peep for myself haha.

Haven't got a chance to do a low light shoot but it's coming up and i'm hoping to be pleasantly surprised.

Hi thanks for watching it. The strongest shots are probably the 50fps stuff at night but the V/O for that is just a guy talking about sharks. The guy at the start has to be there to set the tone of the video. The last guy is interesting but the shots aren't anything special.

I can't find a good bit of V/O to end with. The music doesn't end very well either IMO. If they had just given a 90sec limit, I think this would be easier! :P

I took delivery on my AF-100 yesterday (Friday 30 Sept). Shot some test footage on youth soccer under an overcast sky. The test was to shoot it all auto-auto and see the results. Came back loaded some clips in to CS5 and voila. The color was excellent. I did color correction on one clip. It was nearly perfect to begin with, but the red on some of the jersey was a little hot, still with in broadcast range, but I pulled it back a couple of points and the scene locked in. Obviously the auto focus doesn't quite keep up with sports action, but on a bright day a manual setting at that distance works fine. Going to use on a job Monday, indoor under mixed lighting in a classroom setting. We'll see. The only bummer of the day was when I went to pick up the cam at EAR in Phoenix, some thugs smashed a window in my camper shell, thinking, I would guess, that there was gear in the truck. Fortunately I was between shoots and the only thing they saw was my old golf clubs, which apparently they didn't want. This was the second go-round for that window--some creep smashed it in the hotel parking lot during a shoot in San Diego in June--but the gear was in the room with me, he got nothing and the hotel bought me a new window.
