these are straight grabs from the hvr-z1u, with no color correction or processing, minus reducing the size by 25 percent. Shot in 60i at 1.7 with 1/60th shutter, blackstretch and cinegamma type 2. The stills are grabs from the beginning of a short i'm working on. The rest of the short will be cineframe 25 slowed to 24 in post...

I'm extremely happy with this camera, but it's the only one i've gotten my hands on.

well, most footage straight from any cam looks just OK, even the DVX. These will need some CC though.

This is subjective of course, but the first one could use some fill light on the actors left side. This lighting is kind of harsh, and screams video. BUT this also may be what you are going for in the scene. Maybe there is a lamp on his right, I dont know. :)

Im sorry, Im just sick of my DVX kills HDV. I thinks its funny opinion because you put 60i DVX footage on an HDTV, the fx1/z1u footage is clearly better. Yes DVX emulates films better, but thats not what everyone wants, I dont.

To be honest the SD picture of the trusty DVX looks better.

hahahahahahahahaha. i own a dvx 100a and an hvr. no it doesnt. you can't compare the too. just because you have one and not the other doesnt mean you have to defend it to the ends of the earth. i love the dvx also, my friend. i wouldnt be here if i didn't.

the actor gets up in bed in a dark room and turns on a light to his right...good call!!

I'd rather die than shoot 60i.

I'm just messing with you, the Sony is a good camera.

I am still going through all the settings to determine what looks best... i think 60i isn't it. I mostly posted this because i was looking for posts like this when i was deciding what camera to buy...

I thought he looked hung over! And you are right about the cams- people need to not invest themselves so emotionaly in their gear. They are important, but cams are just one tool of many used in motion pictures.

People dont leave theatres talking about the camera, they leave talking about the story.

hopefully...

it's difficult for some people to spend 3 thousands dollars on something and be objective about it's abilities.

"People dont leave theatres talking about the camera, they leave talking about the story."

Thats because, for anything thats made it to the theater, the quality/appearance of the camera clearly isn't an issue.

When's the last time a minidv camera video got wide release?

simple color correcting

simple color correcting

this is after 2 minutes of color correcting. I pushed the footage really far just to see what it would take. It, um, can take a lot.

Nice

Although I prefer my DVX (24p) over any camera currently (Okay, maybe the HVX) the argument is old and tired and the replies in this thread are totally unwarranted. Dude is showing some stills and doesnt need a wiseass commment about the DVX being better.

mynamesbuck needs a little bit of forum ettitquette

heres another one...
I am a sex addict by caveh zahedi. just got picked up, AND it was shot on a *gasp* pd150.

i think we all forget the main idea behind a movie or short. Its the story we are trying to tell. The camera is just a tool. Doen't even really matter which camera you use, as long as the content is interesting and creative.
