i just purchased an hpx170 and shot 480i/30p for a client. the very top of the frame edge is visible for some reason (i can see the black edge of the frame at the top). this only happens in standard def 16:9. it appears this way in fcp and also the raw quicktime file. could this be a setting?

thanks
andy

nobody has had this issue? barry? it actually occurs in 4:3 as well. all SD recording options. but not in any HD

I don't use FCP, and haven't used 480 mode on my 170 in ... maybe ever. There was an issue on the HVX200 where the top couple of lines on 1080/24pA mode could have some funkiness in them, but I don't know about any such issue on the HPX170.

Even if it did, no TV would display it, and you could do a little crop of the top line...

...but no, I don't know if this is commonplace or not.

In all my camcorders -- and I had quite a few of them already -- there were no problems with top/bottom lines. There were problems with left/right black lines, but this is because for some strange reason Vegas calculates DV aspect ratio from 704x480 frame, while all my cameras recorded 720x480.

Never seen any lines in Vegas with DV.

There are left/right black lines if you put HD footage into a DV timeline, but that's because DV's "16:9" is actually a bit wider than true 16:9, whereas HD is true.
