Once again... it's just me with my little project...

but here are some newer screen grabs ( Frames captured anarmorphically on the DVX-100A (movie has been shot all in 24p, HD and SD, with the DVX-100A (sometimes with the P+S Technik Mini35 adapter and then without it on the B-camera, which uses Century lenses inside a Chrosziel mattebox) and the Varicam (for some 2nd unit, and a couple of FX sequences) being the principal cameras, and the XL2 used for police interrogation and police station scenes)...)

... No one's seen these except for the editor-in-chief at Post Magazine (they're doing a small piece on the movie, which is being published in the "indie film" issue of Post (the may issue)... Anyhow... I don't know what you think of 'em, but here they are... below the screen grabs is a copy of the new rough poster for the movie (both versions)

P.S. There's more stuff at my livejournal, if you're interested... THANKS!!!!!

Wow... it looks really dark on this monitor, but it looks golden in the timeline... look at it with good contrast on a high res monitor or in a dark, dark room... and you might be able to make out what's there...

Looks good man. i like that first movie poster.

What kind of equipment did you use with the DVX while filming this?

Thx

Thx

Thanks fellows.

I thought this was where I was supposed to post it... Oh well, I guess if it's really bad, then maybe they can move it or delete it (if it's a hassle). Sorry for that. I really don't understand messageboard protocols that well.

As for equipment used in conjunction with the DVX-100A, there's a whole bunch of stuff, some of which I may not know we used too. I do know we've used the Steadicam Flyer (which is wonderful btw), a whole array of Century Optics lenses (mainly the .6x wide angle, the .7x wide angle, the fish eye, and the teleconverter), the Anamorphic adapter for some sequences (squeeze mode when using the lenses and matteboxes, which were used far more than the Anamorphic adapter), Sachtler DV8 tripods, the Chrosziel matteboxes (incl. French & side flags), both Schneider and Tiffen 4x4 filters, and a whole bunch of other stuff. We've used a bunch of different support mechanisms besides the Steadicam also, including the DVRig Pro, the Hollywood Lite (running rig), numerous custom designed pods/wheels, and for one sequence a Cinesaddle... We've also used a number of dollies, mostly the Super Pee-Wee and in one instance the Indie Dolly (which is great, but doesn't compare to the Pee-Wee obviously). Most of the DVX shooting has been A and B camera, and in a couple of instances a three cam set-up too. There's a bunch of other stuff, but that's what I can think of being used the most to my knowledge. Of course, we've been shooting off and on for a very long time!

We're still trucking along. I can't wait to use the Fig Rig for some stuff. There's more stuff coming.

We just shot a scene with Lloyd Kaufman (a flashback), which was fun. Lloyd acted in another movie of mine from several years ago (it was called "The Tunnel", shot on Super 16, and also starred Mark Borchardt from "American Movie", and Masuimi Max, who is in the new "xXx: state of the union" flick). He's a ton of fun, and actually really acts in this.

Yeah, so far Panasonic has impressed me the most all around. The DVX and the Varicam have both created a lot of magic for us on this movie.

I'm diggin' it... but there's a long road ahead with post too... ayayay!

Best Wishes and thanks,

Ramzi

Hey NOCASH,

Yeah, Lloyd's great. He's a good friend in many ways actually. You can see some pics from the tunnel shoot with lloyd from 2001 (for "the tunnel" obviously). Here are a couple links for either info or pics with Lloydie & "the tunnel":

Its good, just remember that the timelines are allway brighter than common TVs, think about that. But I like it... well done

First off, long, dark, wavy hair just kills me. Bless dose whehmen. Secondly, you may wanna just get a junky ol' 7" or 13" used tv from some junky ol' place, don't touch a thing, and use that as a third reference monitor. I was reminded of this today when a broke friend offered me a tv/vcr combo in exchange for setting up some computers for him. I jumped at the chance cause I always like to get tvs from college kids or high schoolers b/c they always have their sets set the way they're generation tends to like to watch things. Unless something is turned way lo or hi I never touch the settings. This way I can see where my broadcast monitor corrected footage fits in in the real world. The plus today is that my friend actually works set design on Hollywood films; so I'm hoping he has a peculiar way of watching tv. I'm dying to see how he sets his contrast and brightness. Seems trivial but it works for helping me not make my colors boring to the attention span depraved yuuutes. Now back to those hotties...

Hey TimeKoder, oddly enough we've done exactly that. These frame grabs barely even capture (no pun intended) the way the stuff looks. We have a small 27" sharp that we use as 3rd reference for the real world, so that our sony video assist monitor on set and the ones we use in editing are also accompanied by the sharp. It looks killer on all kinds of monitors so far, under multiple set ups (lower and higher contrast ratios, lower or higher chroma/color)... One of the choices early on was to really craft the look, from the casting process of interesting/horrific/or divinely beautiful people to the sets, which have to have the right colors (mostly shifting over to blue or red, since those are my favorite primary colors for my film palette), then all the other stuff comes into place, lighting, exposure, and on this camera, detail levels (mostly low), riding the chroma, and creating as many variations of depth of field we can... So far the most accurate look has been out of a progressive scan output from a dvd into a large 42" HD plasma monitor, but from crappy monitor to higher quality video projection (we've done 1 test), it still holds up pretty swell.

The other day I watched it on an old black and white rca (from ages ago), and it looked like an old movie. Now, that made me a bit excited.

Thanks again... I'll post some stuff soon with some of the other actors... hopefully it'll look decent too.

All the best and many a thank-ya',

R

Yes, Trent co-wrote the book, "make your own damn movie", and he also co-wrote a couple of projects for Troma, namely Lloyd Kaufman's film, "Citizen Toxie: The Toxic Avenger IV". Aside from that, what Trent's probably best known for is his acting... He played significant roles in "Terror Firmer" and "Citizen Toxie", as well as Troma's Edge TV. Trent also played lead roles in films like "Suburban Nightmare", "The Ghouls", "Dr. Horror's Erotic House Of Idiots", and the Tempe movies: "Hell Asylum" and "Dead & Rotting". We get a few mentions in Lloyd's book... my name's actually the first one in the index btw.

Cheers,

R

P.S. Needless to say... Trent's acting in this paricular film is unlike his acting in anything else, except maybe "Suburban Nightmare" (which I highly recommend btw, and which was shot in Hi-Def too btw). Trent really shows his acting chops in "Black Dahlia", and I can't wait for more people to see that. He's actually darned good!

We gonna see any moving pics? you gonna reply to my PM? Questions... Questions... Questions...
