Four new Picture Profiles for The FS100 2.0

The FS100 finally received the 2.0 firmware update, so it´s time for some new profiles.
My main goal was to get good looking skin tones at daylight. For other situations, play with the white balance till the skin tones are right and everything else should fall into place

For best results: Adjust your black levels to Zero (you can even go a hair below, as I have learned) for every single scene.

K-Tone 2.0

Based on the K-Ton warm, vintage, sweet home Alabama Kodachrome 25 look – here comes a new version.

Black Level: 0 (set per scene)
Gamma: Cinematone 1
Black Gamma High, +3
Knee 102,5, -1
Color Mode: Cinematone1, +7
Color Level: -6
Colorphase: -7
Colordepth: R +2, G +6, B +5,C +5, M 0, Y +5
WB Shift: LB-CC, -8, -1
Detail: Level -4, Manual off

G-LOG A 2.0

Black Level: 0 (set per scene)
Gamma: Standard
Black Gamma High, +7
Knee 105, 0
Color Mode: Standard, +8
Color Level: -3
Colorphase: -7
Colordepth: R -6, G +2, B +2, C -2, M +1, Y +2
WB Shift: LB-CC, 0, 0
Detail: Level -2, Manual off

G-Log B 2.0
This is a very special and more aggressive, almost gritty look.
It brings out every wrinkle in a face.

Black Level: 0 (set per scene)
Gamma: Cinematone 2
Black Gamma High, +7
Knee 105, 0
Color Mode: Cinematone2, +8
Color Level: -4
Colorphase: -1
Colordepth: R +7, G +4, B +5, C 0, M 0, Y +0
WB Shift: RB, -9, +6
Detail: Level 3, Manual on, V/H 0, B/W, Type3, Limit 7, Chrispening 4, HL. Detail 0,

GlenColor 2.0

A look you can use, if you don´t want to fiddle too much post.

Black Level: (variable – start at 0 and adjust to your scene)
Gamma: Cinetone2
Black Gamma High +7
Knee: 105% and slope +5
Colormode: Cinematone2 +8
Color Level -2
Colorphase 0
Depth: R+4, G+7, B+7, C+7, M+4, Y+7
WB-Shift R-B, R-7, B0
Detail: Level 0, Manual ON, BWType3, Limit4, Chrispening5

If something starts looking purple, you need to dial in your WB by hand, while looking at skin tones.
Don't use presets or kelvin numbers.

I encourage everyone to take those profiles as a starting point and tweak them till they suit your taste.
Have fun playing with them.

Frank

Thanks a lot Frank, really appreciate it. Unfortunately I'm not able to test them now but should do some test at Monday.

Frank, what profiles do you find your self using most often? Are these profiles
for indoor as well as out door?

Im new at this so it might be a stupid question but does "WB Shift: LB-CC, -8, -1" mean LB-CC LB[Color Temp] = -8, CC[MG/GR]=-1 or does the -8,-1 refer to R and B Gain?

--- Never mind. I figured out the obvious. :)

Looks like all you need to do is save the profiles to your card and then we can share the CAMPRO file it generates.

From AbelCine's site: "First you must save your own (empty) camera profile to SD card in your FS100. then open SD card in PC and replace file: PRIVATE/SONY/SETTINGS/FS100EP/CAMPRO01.DAT with file:PRIVATE/SONY/SETTINGS/FS100UN/CAMPRO01.DAT downloaded from this site. then insert SD card to FS100 and load camera profile. "

Alright, So I just did it myself. Here's CAMPRO02.DAT with Frank's profiles as follows:
PP1 = Glencolor 2.0
PP2 = K-Tone 2.0
PP3 = G-LOG A 2.0
PP4 = G-LOG B 2.0
PP5 = Can't recall - whatever I had loaded before
PP6 = Can't recall - whatever I had loaded before

Pretty sure they're correct but take no responsibility if they're a tick or two off. Double check if you like.

I posted this in another thread, but FYI: I found that you can copy the CAMPROxx.DAT file into your existing private/SONY/SETTING/FS100UN folder and rename it to the next unused number 02, 03, etc. and it will work fine. I tried renaming it to something more meaningful, but that unfortunately does not work. So you can rename the CAMPRO02 file above to your next available number if needed.

Yeah... I really don't understand what were Sony thinking - the long awaited V2 firmware gives us save-able and load-able camera settings, but no individual naming of the configuration files! I would expect an update to this update soon, and it should make it possible to store camera settings and PPs in separate files with meaningful names, too....

Why separate? Well, when exchanging PPs with other users, I usually don't need to load their camera settings (like 50/60i, Gain units/switch settings, Shutter units/settings, etc) - just their PPs; for other scenarios (like multi-camera shoots) both PPs and camera settings should be loadable.

Tested out these new profiles today along with my own little tweek, which is just taking out the wb shift, and they turned out great! i tested both with and without wb shift if anyone cares to see, but i kind of butchered choosing my wb on the wbshift profiles.

Make sure you always WB to a grey card or at least to some white paper, t-shirt or whatever to your light situation on set/scene.
Just dialing in Kelvin temperatures is something different than a proper WB.

Would there happen to be a walkthrough up somewhere that covers doing a manual WB the correct way? I've been doing the lazy/fast method of just dialing it in via kelvin.

yeah i was trying with a white wall but did a poor job. Ill probably stick to the non-wb shift profiles since i like the look.

Frank, why do you have the wb-shift in your profiles? what does that achieve? just curious.
