Through extensive testing, I've found the bad combination of menu settings that cause the FS7 to lock up.
Apparently, it is impossible to switch from 4K to HD if the output menu is set to QFHD. I did 5 trials of attempting to change the output format within the XAVC-I CODEC, but the camera didn't reboot and the time remaining on the cards was unchanged at 7 and 15 minutes for my two cards.
I had a hunch that my setup is having this issue because I'm driving a Shogun recorder and many other folks are not.
My HDMI out was set to QFHD during these failed attempts.
I decided to set the output to 1920x1080 SDI, then go change the format to 1080P and it worked. The only oddity I observed was that the menu UI became very sluggish, with menus painting v-e-r-y slowly. But the time remaining updated to the correct value and I could power the camera down without having to remove battery.
The lethal combination is having HDMI set to QFHD when trying to set the format to a lower resolution than 4K. This is with the latest firmware update.
