I am new to the forum and I hope that this is the correct place for this :)

I am upgrading my current editing/work station and one of the main things I am looking to do is hook up a pair of Fostex RM865 reference monitors to my iMac for playback from FCP as well as music, etc.

I acquired the speakers from a buddy of mine who upgraded his home studio a few years back. I have been looking al over to try and find out what I will need to a.) power the speaks since I know they require an amp and b.) What I will need to hook them up to my iMac as external speakers.

I'm a college student so I am looking for a fairly budget friendly solution if at all possible. Thanks in advance.

Anyone lol

I'm pretty internet savvy and I have torn about a majority ofthe search results from google, bing and even yahoo with no luck ont he information I am looking for. I find a lot about fostex even some about the speakers themselves but nothing that gives the tech specs of what it takes to run the darn things. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I couldn't even find that model number in the Fostex website archive of manuals. Are you sure of the model number? Do they have impedance or power ratings on the nameplate?

"Fairly low budget" means nothing without knowing WHERE you are, and a currency symbol and some digits.

I saw some used stereo power amps on MusiciansFriend for <US$200 that would probably drive the speakers just fine.

Very nice speakers. Here is a link to a PDF of the manual.

They can handle up to 1000W per side so... I would look for an amp with at least 100W per side (200W amp). If you don't have an audio interface for the iMac you may want to see if you can get a 200W receiver and use that. It will be a bit more user friendly going out of the headphone jack of the Mac.
