Formosa hits Toronto

Do you have any plans for a distribution deal for the film? I'm curious because a) it looks quite good, and b) it seems to me that only slasher movies and raunchy sex comedies easily find distribution (not that there's anything wrong with either genre). I'm interested to see a how a comedy as intelligent and complex as "Formosa" would fare in its search for distribution.

Got some things in the works Kevin- thanks for asking. I'll definitely give the scoop here as soon as I can. In the meantime, just got the trailer into H.264/QuickTime 7 goodness here:

Hi Kevin-

The short answer is: less than you would think. The long answer is that I'm not at liberty to say right now. :)

Congrats Noah! I've heard Toronto and Vancouver are THE places in Canada to get your movies seen. I have a question for you now though. If you had it at your disposal when you started filming Formosa would you have preffered shooting it on the Varicam or SDX?

I couldn't be happier with the SDX. One thing that really came in handy was the low compression level. Relative to the VariCam, the SDX's footage is much less compressed which made for easier compositing of our greenscreen shots. And I've yet to hear one person watch the film and then say- if only it were HD. :)

And you won't be hearing it from me either :), the trailer looked amazing. Reminded me of one of those old movies that would really inspire you. I'm planning a project to be shot next summer and I'm torn between the SDX and the Varicam which is why I ask. It's so nice to have such awesome equipment to bring ideas to life.

Noah, do you think you could put up a smaller version up, I love the look and story of the movie and would like to be able to see the trailer without it being all jerky (I'm only on a PentiumIII)

Congratulations on the silver medal,
Mike

Thanks very much Noah, I was going to go to that page when I first opened the thread but just plain forgot.

Unfortunately, I just read this post - I would have loved to have been there. I'll try keeping more up to date from now on :(
